I heard from a lady taking fertility treatments to take Robitussin. The theory is that women's bodies have more mucus and the Robitussin breaks down the mucus to let the sperm in. But I don't know this for a fact. You may be able to look that up and see if it's just a myth.

For what it's worth, I have 2 cousins that had unplanned pregnancies. They got remarried to wonderful men and decided to have a baby when their children were about 11 or 12. They were successful and happy with their decisions. But they did tell me that planning a pregnancy is so much different and exciting as well as disappointing at times. Their advice was to just have fun and enjoy the process. Don't stress too much over the outcome. Really be into eachother and not the baby-making part. Does that make sense?

I will have to check the Robitussin theory...never heard that one?

I guess that since my first pregnancy just happened I was hoping that it would be easy to get pregnant again and that within a month or two it would just happen.

I do think it MIGHT take more time now because you are older than you were with your first. Sorry! I'm totally not trying to be rude! Believe me, I am right there with you--I was only 20 when I conceived my DD, and when we try for a baby this time around, I will be 28. It does make a difference. I believe they say a woman's peak fertility is between ages 18-25. (or something like that) Then it starts to slowly decline a little bit each year.

How old are you, do you mind my asking?

I know they say if you actively TRY for 6 months, and you are over 35, then you should seek medical attention. Otherwise, if you are under 35, they say try for 12 months before seeking med. intervention.

I have friends who have had good luck with temping and charting.

While you are trying to conceive, you should avoid taking any medications, even over the counter ones, except on the advice of a physician.

I have heard some fertility doctors say dont waste time, that if you are older, have been trying for a few months, time to go to doctor.

be careful with fertility treatments. My cousin got triplets this way. well they are a blessing but just be prepared...ha. other than that talk to your OB/GYN. they'll know.

I am almost 30 and my dh is 33. So we are not really that old...well not to me anyways :)

I did see a dr. not too long ago and she said that since we both have had children before and have no medical issues we know of and we are not that old to just relax and give it about a year of "really trying". She also recommended ovulation prediction kits. Told me to give it another 6 months and then see her if nothing happens.

I did try the ovulation kit last month and we made sure our timing was right with when it said I was ovulating. But no luck! Then my friend told me that if the lines are light and not dark that I may not have been ovulating?

I would not trust the ovulation predictors--I think you really need to temp and chart your temps to verify that you are ovulating.

My cousin and her DH tried for 6 months, and I know she *thought* she was ovulating. After 6 months she started to chart her temps and she realized she did NOT ovulate. She went to the dr, had bloodwork and stuff done, and was put on Clomid--to induce ovulation.

She got pregnant within a month or two.

I would definitely start charting so you can #1) verify that you ARE ovulating--and if you're NOT, then you can get to a doctor sooner and not waste time.

If your husband doesn't wear boxers, he might try changing as tight clothes & underwear can lower sperm count. The heat is not good, so he should stay out of hot tubs, cooler showers, & looser clothes.

It took me SEVEN YEARS to get pregnant so maybe I am not the best go to for advice on this subject...hahaha. All I know is we were told that Jonathan needed to stop smoking and we need to monitor my body temperature.

We had started taking ovulation tests and by mid-month I stopped getting any reading at all. I had a melt down thinking I didn't even have enough hormones to even register on the tests and would never get pregnant....turns out the test line had dissapeared because I already WAS pregnant and my body had stopped producing the hormone.

I would go on ahead to the doctor if I was you. We had started the fertility testing process and they tested him first and then told me we had to do the ovulation test strips for a few months before they would proceed with any other tests. They want to rule out the easy stuff first which also requires less abrasive procedures. If you want to get pregnant any time soon you may want to go ahead and get the medical ball rolling since it's a time consuming process.

I highly recommend charting and www.fertilityfriend.com has a free online training and free where you can put your temps and signs in. It helped us. I learned that we had to time it just right with ovulation. Not sure if it meant DH's swimmers didn't survive as long or not because we are older. It is normal to take several months to get pregnant, but after 6 months I'd see a fertility specialist to have things checked out.

I have a couple of good friends who are acupuncturists. They specialize in infertility. They are open to treating patients who are also using traditional western medicine. They also treat people strictly through Tradition Chinese Medicine. Ironically we were talking about this very subject at dinner this evening, and the incredible success rate my two friends have with their patients. Additionally, the costs are far less than invetro.
