I hear whisperings of a get together ! ( Sorry - this will be long )Let me tell you of my experience doing this ! It was AWESOME ! I chatted with a couple stained glass people when I first started doing glass. Well - this one knew that one - that one knew another and suddenly - there was about 10 of us -- & we decided to meet ! None of us had ever met before. We picked out a date & one central location to leave from. We all met there . Meeting & greeting ! Awesome. We then packed up a couple vans & did our driving . We were like a bunch of kids on a field trip !! We finally arrived at our motel . We reserved a couple rooms . From the motel - we drove to a couple stained glass factories ( we bought wholesale !)Yough.Glass even had the red carpet rolled out for us - lunch - tours,etc ... We also toured a couple of Frank Lloyd Wright houses . We had a whole room reserved for us at a fancy restaurant - when we got there - the Marquis read "WELCOME STAINED GLASS LADIES !" We ate & since everyone seemed to have glass in common - we "held class" & taught each other what we knew.( That's how I learned to cut glass ! ) Back at the hotel, we chatted all night.

Being as the hotel was right next to a winery and everyone toured it and bought a bottle - we couldn't shut up ! LOL

We met in Michigan .... we had people from NY - California - Illinois ,Wisconsin ,Iowa & Indiana. This was the most awesome time of my life -- I have tons of pictures that I look back on and just Sigh ~~ the internet is wonderful !

Where did you meet in Michigan, Toomuch? And where are the stained glass factories? Since I live in Michigan, I really should know!

The missus watches her stuff in the living room on the big TV. I can sit at the computer and watch whatever I feel like, without regard to the time of day or whatever. I use the headphones, to help compensate for my hearing deficits, and the missus won't be bothered by my programs.

Thanks for the story. It was a moving picture in my mind. I would loved to have shared such a moment with her. Like you, I felt the longing for her to have children...someone to look after her in these late years. Seriously, write these things down and include pictures....its a no brainer. I use different names and passwords. I have never used my name, sorry I am not really Shannon I just liked the name. I may reveal a lot of personal stuff but don't think anyone would find me any sooner than if they hired a private eye. I feel really bad for my dd. When you google her name a really, really hot 20ish girl from Vegas pops up. It worries me that some freak out there might think that is really my dd. No matter how much I have tried to tell her and her friends about personal info online I am always amazed at how much they put out there. Which is why we are trying so hard to make sure she knows about creepy stuff in case she tries to have a myspace or whatnot without our knowledge. GD- is that you in your other career? Unfortunately my dh has a common name. A local child support agency decided to search every guy with that name in CA and start garnishing taxes, wages etc. They served 5 different guys, non of which had same soc sec as offending dad. When we asked why they did not bother to at least check the soc sec number to see if they had the right guy they said "they just don't have the manpower". After speaking with the Attorney General's office we got the county to send us a letter admitting what they did and that they were wrong and would take responsibility for any harm it might cause. Dh's info got mixed up in the credit bureaus with the offending dad. It has taken years of checking every few months to make sure my dh's info stays unmixed up with the bad dad.

I like Moni's suggestion best for someone learning to read. Also you could print out pages of text on both ends of the conversation. When my children were learning to read I seem to remember a teacher saying that having the parent/teacher looking over the child's shoulder was helpful and encouraging in a way I don't think you could accomplish with the child just looking at the text by herself. So both people looking at the same text simultaneously seems best to me so eye contact can be made of the encouraging, supportive part. This has been how my children have done things with language teachers over FaceTime in the past, more or less.

I met my "friends" at Grand Rapids airport . ( I was too chicken to drive - I flew in ) ... There are so many glass factories around there ... many in PA .. Alot in Allenstown ...

I had the same wonderful experience with a group of ONE Stroke gals going for certification. We all talked on the internet before our certification was to begin, and when we got there we all seem to know who everyone was and we all had name tags at the hotel, so when we met it was like meeting an old friend. honestly though when I saw this post I was thinking I was going to open a story about internet predators LOL. glad to hear/see that that wasn't the case.

I've been to Gardenweb trades where one person would volunteer to be the host and all traders within driving distance would come bringing plants to swap. They were fun and very educational. I haven't been to one in a long while.

Glass: You just described what it was like meeting Slow and Rosie in Mexico!! WONDERFUL!!!! I'd LOVE to meet EVERYBODY on this forum!!! Meeting and touring glass factories and glass shops is a dreamy idea!!! Klinger and I were pondering about the Seattle area as they have a glass factory and Lewis and Little too!!

Oohh, do that Calamity and Slow! I would come across the state for that! I'd love to meet you both! I saw Lewis and Little in June, and it was wonderful! Went home very inspired! Didn't know there was a glass factory nearby! Shellybelly, I thought the same as you, I was a little scared to open this one! Jennie

there's more than one glass factory and galleries in Seattle. also need to consider the display of Chihuly's glass, at the old railroad terminal in Tacoma.
do a google search for that..
there are fabulous works of glass art at the airport at Sea-Tac and so many things, one couldn't see them all in a day or even two.

I met up with chickeemama about two weeks ago.
we started out with breakfast at a favorite restaurant and headed straight over to Shipwreck Beads..from there it was a fast trip halfway up the loop on Hood Canal.
Back to Olympia to some fun quirky places and a coffee factory and back to Shipwreck.
not nearly enough hours in that short day...it's good I live fairly close, so we can do this again one day.

Gotta focus on going back to PV, probably in Feb., but that does sound great. I limit air travel cuz I got sick of it and hate it. ROSIE and I could probably do a road trip in the Jeep if the time was right.
