I personally like it. It just needs a colorful door for the main door. Maybe eggplant, or teal, or a sunshine yellow. By painting the man door to the garage the trim color, you correctly de-emphasized its importance, so all that remains is to emphasize the importance of the main entry.

What's your next project? Some architectural shingles? Staining the drive? Tweaking the landscape?

I was thinking a dark color for the front door too -- I love the suggestion of eggplant!

I like it.

Mossy green though, will not minimize the pink, it will enhance it: green is the complementary color to red, and complements (opposites on the color wheel) bring out the opposing tones. Notice that the original deep red actually made the brick more gray looking in the one photo. I think the brick looks pinker now than it did before.

I don't see this as a problem though, I like the new combination.

I love the new paint job! It really complements the brick color & makes it look sophisticated & modern. Works well with the roof too. I think a soft mossy green could be pretty, depending on the shade, but if it doesn't work, it's a fairly easy change.

LWO: Yes, the next step is to start redesigning the landscaping. I've already planted the seed in my dh's mind about replacing the cracked concrete driveway and widening the front walkway. That would lead to making the front porch a bit bigger and maybe adding a little patio under the window- sigh...I hope the seed germinates.
Eggplant? I thought of that color initially and dh almost choked. I thought a grayish green w/o any blue would work with the brick.
@Pal: Darn it! I thought I had that color wheel figured out.

Next question: dh and neighbors think we should paint the trim around the garage doors a contrasting color. I'm trying to stay firm about making that side of the house monochrome but am beginning to waffle. Would using larger house numbers painted a contrasting color work instead of painting the trim? I could use the same color as the main door to tie it together.

I love the new color! Don't know if i would paint the trim though. The idea of the contrasting numbers sound good because it seems like painting the trim around the garage would re-emphasize it.

Maybe you can try a paint visualizer on BM or SW website and play around with the eggplant color. You may be able to persuade your husband once he see's it online. Eggplant can be bright or almost black. I think a nice black cherry color would work too.

Yes to contrasting numbers. Plain black would be nice if you are keeping the black lighting.

Don't let them talk into painting the trim a different color than the garage doors. It's looks great as you've done it.

I think some large brass numbers above the doors (if your street number is long) or the same mounted on the trim between the doors would be very rich looking.

As I was walking the dog this afternoon I was noticing house numbers and outdoor lighting and decided if we are going to update the color, we may as well update the lighting and house numbers too.

Here is further ammunition.

There is only siding between and atop the doors, not on each side. Contrasting trim would separate the doors from both siding and the brick, but not in a consistent way.

Look at the old paint job. There is a giant maroon T on the garage facade--

and now there is a nice block of color that references another block of colored siding on the other end of the house. (Which doesn't have contrasting trim anywhere else.)

Painting the garage end of the house with contrasting trim will make it different from the rest of the facade and start separating it into complex shapes again.
