I can't offer an opinion on cl. CS vs. cl. CB (having not grown either yet) but this this brings up a question of interest to me . I have just rooted some cuttings from a climbing rose in the backyard of my daughter's apartment building in San Francisco. The rose sure looks and smells like Cecille Brunner and is about 12' tall, but very rangy and a bit depauperate (lots of shade and it's growing in the middle of a giant bamboo stand -- good grief, how bad can it get for a poor rose?). The rose blooms off-and-on all year long -- in fact, was blooming during this past January and February. On the other hand, there is a church here in Livermore that has Cl. CB growing on it and I've never seen those rebloom after the spring flush. So, I've been wondering if there possibly are clones of Cl. CB that are remontant. Kim, thanks for answering! I have a cl. Pinkie but not the cl. Cecile Brunner. I'd read there was more than one of them but didnt know which was best. Sounds like the spray CB is what I want. I have an Heirloom order coming, will get them to add to it. Last summer wasnt bad - but 2011 was the absolute worst heat I have seen in Texas. Hopefully.....we wont have another one of those! My cl. Pinkie was planted last year so is still a young plant and probably wont bloom to capacity until it is 3. I have grown roses for years but have just recently purchased a Cecile Brunner - its starting to bloom its head off in a 1 gallon pot - and I started wondering about the climbing form. Chamblees has a cl. CB but not sure if its the spray form. I love Pinkie.......but I have an arbor that needs a pink climber and wanted to see what the experts thought of these. I water everything well in the summer, so unless the heat was the issue, these roses will have good care. So Kim, if it was your arbor, which would you choose? I will end up having both, no doubt....but now am wondering which to put on this arbor - its in my backyard and in full view of the deck so want whatever is planted there to be the best bloomer. I have this rose too but I'm not as happy with it as you are. Gorgeous fragrant flowers, yes. But for me it's not at all disease resistant. But that's to be expected given my location. I have the same issue with this as I do with regular Don Juan and some other roses. Great blooms, horrible looking canes and foliage. I wouldn't mind if it were covered in blooms, but it isn't. Not only is mine usually leafless (even with being sprayed) but the canes get grey and ugly looking. I am going to really prune it next spring and start over. Maybe it just needs to be refreshed.

Very pretty! And it looks like it'd be easier to decorate around than many antique beds. (I have two Eastlake beds with high headboards, which make it difficult to arrange furniture without blocking windows -- explains why so many Eastlake headboards were cut down.) From what I could find, your bed is earlier than the 1880's. Charles Robinson was active between 1854-1878, so it must have been made between 1858 (patent date) and 1878. Robinson was best-known as a chairmaker. The NY State Museum in Albany has some C. Robinson pieces in its "NY Furniture at the NY State Museum" exhibit.
