Questions for Guardian generator owners

I'm looking at getting a home standby generator from Guardian that runs on natural gas and was curious about owners' perceptions of them. One of my specific questions is if the noise level is quieter at partial loads than at full loads, or is it always the same? I'm aware that the weekly exercise cycle is quieter. When the generator runs, do you hear it inside the house? If you have neighbors, do they object to it?

I'm also seeing a wide range of installation costs for the gas and electric hookup. I've got bids from $600 to $3500 and have only found one local installer who'se done one of these before. He invited me to see it at his home. When he killed power, it started but never tripped the transfer switch to start supplying power to the house. He was embarrassed and I was left concerned about his ability to do a proper install.

Let me know your experiences, please.
