GFIC pass though question

I'm using two GFIC receptacles as "pass throughs" so the receptacles after will be GFIC protected.

The wire I'm using is 12/3 with ground (NM type) to provide two separate circuits.

Since the cable only has one neutral conductor I can't wire a neutral as a in and an out of each GFIC receptacle.

I am wiring each in hot to the line side of the reciptcle and each out hot to the load side.

If I connect all neutrals together (in, out, two tails for the GFIC receptacles) does the GFIC protection still exist?

Thanks,

Al Sharff
