Jeld-Wen "Siteline"? Also bad?
Comments (6)I got a Marvin something in the bathroom where I wanted fiberglass on the inside and some type of Anderson (Eagle maybe? Sorry I don't remember.) for the majority of it where I wanted wood on the inside. I had to mix brands to get the outsides to match and the insides not to. I don't remember much. :) I dimly recall there not being much to choose from with cherry inside. Now that I think about it, I remember that I specced a drywall return and trusted my GC to order the right ones and now I have gobs of trim everywhere because he didn't. He was terrible. Probably mad I didn't get Jeldwen. (That behavior manifested elsewhere where our tastes didn't coincide...) Gah. Anyway, they're okay. Open and close nicely. Good hardware. The Marvin probably is too but it's at the top of a shower so I don't see it. I don't think doors and windows have a tough job in our climate. I miss the old aluminum ones though....See MoreAndersen "A" series vs Jeld-Wen Siteline Ex
Comments (10)Fiberglass is much better if you purchase a quality product like Integrity by Marvin, Fibertech or Inline when compared to anything Jeldwen. I personally am not sold on Fibrex in part due to the fact that it is made from "40% reclaimed" material. A premium quality Extruded Aluminum Clad window like Marvin Ultimates or Kolbe in my opinion are marginally better than the above listed fiberglass units. i personally do not like anything by Jeldwen....See MoreJeld-Wen Traditions Plus or M&W Freedom 800 Series?
Comments (3)We used MW Freedom 800 windows in our cabin project and have been very satisfied. We did look at the Jeld Wen and Andersen but the MW were around 30 to 40% less and quality appears to be very good. I can feel no drafts and we have had no issues since installation. Let me say something that you probably already know, that is the installation of the window is actually more important than the actual quality of the window. Second, the support provided by the company in the event of an "issue" is of great importance. I would ask your supplier about how well MW handles product issues and if the response is satisfactory. We paid a little more buying through a contractor supplier [Builders First Source] than we could have going through Lowes but the supplier provided us with good advice and support. We did have one window that was damaged during delivery and the MW company rep replaced it with no questions asked. Our supplier gives MW high marks and the quality is very good. I like the windows and support....See MoreCurrent opinion of Jeld-Wen Siteline and or their Custom line
Comments (12)I many cases, the higher the window line in a brand; the better the window quality and durability. But it only as good as your installer skills or lack of, however. I am in the windows shopping mode too; since my original windows which are over 30 years old and are "builder's spec" quality windows have lasted so long. I open the window interior trim and my builder seem to install the windows first follow by stuccoing and then the drywall. The gap is about 1/8" in most windows openings and you cannot see the slimming job because the drywall. I went from going shopping the middle lines in a brand to now the top of the lines because I wanted 3 pane glass for noise insulation and low U factor and better air leakage numbers. I also found that some lumber yards if you ask for a customer discount; they will look up your account history with them and if it spans over 35 years like my does; they bend over backwards to give you the best deals because of your loyalty to the company! I have been surprise at the discount that I quoted, making top of line brands more affordable and desirable, just for the asking of the manager for the best discount for a long time customer! The more you shop; the more you learn about windows! There should be no rush to you to replace your windows until you are certain you are comfortably with your choices of windows and installers. There are a lot of bad service and products in this window replacement industry!...See Moremmarse1
