I don't know if you've looked on the gallery side of Home Decorating but they have lots of pics of green.

While it's usually easier to do gold with the look you're going for, if you love green...then green it is. So much depends on the color of your flooring. Is it a cool or warm tone?

I see you're up in Canada so I'm assuming you have access to Farrow and Ball paint. They have so many gorgeous shades of colors. If you have lots of art, I would recommend that you go as neutral as possible in your shade of green unless the floor is very cool or very warm.

You can help us more if you can get a close-up of the floor or at least tell us what it appears to be.

The house sure has some interesting features and could end up looking great! I'm not worried at all about the ceiling being dark. Once you get some color on those walls, all will be fine.

The floor is a warm colour. It's an old tile (maybe terrazzo?) made of pieces of stone and marble, black, lots of reddish brown, and white. I can't take another pic as I don't live there. But if you click on the pictures in the link you can get a bit of a closer look.

I did look at the gallery (obsessively). I've seen lots of gorgeous green rooms; I'm more concerned right now as to whether the colour can work in my specific home.

I'm not a gold fan. But I'm starting to think maybe I should play it safe and stick with white? If I go green, which green would be better: apple green, blue/aqua green, or a yellowy pear green?

Any suggestions for the kitchen cabinets? White or blue or yellow? I'm really open to ideas.

I think your new home will look great with the French look with those interesting beams in the ceiling. If it were me, I'd leave the cabinets white and redo the hardware, at least on the cupboard doors. The current handles seem too busy for them so IÂd switch to knobs on the doors and fill in the extra hole. With the dark ceilings and floors, ORB hardware and faucets might be a great accent. Then use the walls and accessories for the colors you'd like to add to the room.

If the cabinets are stark white, you might consider glazing them--hard to be sure in the photos. But personally I also like pure white cabinets, so that would be last on my list of things to change since they already seem to fit with your French décor plans.

Hoosiergirl and Demifloyd have pretty kitchens, and it seems like their walls may be a green of some sort. IÂll see if I can find a link to give you for ideas. With an open area like yours, IMHO it would look better to keep it all one wall color to unify things. If you go with green, you may want to keep it a very muted green if you plan to bring in the blues and yellows you mentioned for the French look. This first picture shows a painted upper cupboard and island combined with white cabinets.

I think sujafr has the right idea. I love both of those greens. Now, we just need to figure out what they are. I also agree with keeping the cabinets white.

I agree with sujafr.. both on paint and the cupboards. Since you don't have permanent furniture as yet and lots of art, I would go with a green range that is neutral (like the ones above). I have a similar color throughout much of my house.. Tavern Taupe from SW (though I believe it is a duron color. SW has it in their color files). It is a gray/taupe with clear green undertones. I love it.. it works with pretty much anything.

Your house has some very interesting and charming features. I am sure it will be lovely once you are moved in.

I appreciate all your input. It was really important to me to hear an objective opinion as to whether green could work in the space.

Those pictures were particularly useful, sujafr. They made me realize I probably want more of a warmer green, like in the last kitchen. I think maybe that will help with the fact some parts of the house have less light.

Looking at the pictures, I'm not sure I want a white kitchen. I fear it may be too stark. While I do have a piece or two of white painted furniture, I fear that leaving all the cabinets white will be just too much for me. I don't like 'off-white' or creams; they don't seem clean to me. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what colour I could paint the cabinets? One that would go with a soft green?

Don't know if you've seen my greens. The foyer ceiling color is also on the kitchen walls. I apologize for the messy unfnished kitchen. Hopefully I'll have nicer photo's in about 3 weeks when it's finished.

Lovely kitchen Brutuses! That's a beautiful soft green.

Brutuses, that shade of green is just so subtle and it looks striking with the dark tones of your island in the kitchen, as well as it does with the dark stain on the open window. Oh, I wished DH liked green, because that shade is one to die for!

I can't wait to see your finished kitchen!

Heidi, both DH and I hated green. Then we started seeing all the beautiful rooms people posted in green and now we are converts!!
