There it was! Sitting at my doorstep this afternoon. I tore into it like a child at Christmas!

Its from Helen (hrsg)and it's beautiful! She calls it "The Gradient Watering Can."

The outside is done with tiles and mirror. They go from white to black with yellow grout. The handle is mirror with black grout. The spout has a wonderful sun face that just makes me smile!!

The really neat part is the inside. She wrote "How does your garden grow" and put in a glass flower and leaves, then sealed it with resin.

Thank you, thank you!!! I LOVE IT. You did a really good job on it.

Those cans are just ADORABLE...I knew when I started seeing these pics I would have wished I had participated!!! Great job ladies take a bow!!!! They are sooo cute!!!! Very creative...I'd be hard pressed to pick my favorite one!!!

Mine look fine as well. I dump horse manure on the plot after I'm done in the fall and till it in. Sometimes right after I'm done and sometimes like this year, right before I want to get started again. The area I planted my snow peas in was virgin soil a year ago. So it had some manure added then. it needed more this year. It did OK last summer, but not great. Deluge of rain didn't help. I don't fertilize any more during the growing season with most things, especially row crops like this that I seed with a seeder. They always do fine for me. I started making a cocktail a couple years ago in a 500 gallon tank for transplants. I'll make about 200 to 300 gallons at a time because it's heavy to pull around. I'll add whatever size bottle of fish emulsion (quart, I think), chelated iron (micronutrients needed per soil test, 8 or 10 ounces), a bottle of liquid NOG (natural organic growth, organic growth enhancer), and a handful of 20 mule team borax (for the boron) dissolved in water before adding. It's very weak compared to package instructions, but I believe it really works. In 2012, I put in pepper transplants and watered with this for several weeks. Then it got hot and I gave up on lots of things. Couple months later, I noticed red things in the weeds. Turned out my peppers grew larger than any I'd ever had and they were loaded with chiles that had dried on the bush. So I harvested them and was very happy. That year, I also had an overabundance of sweetpotatoes like I've never seen. Monsters! I water in the slips by hand after planting and used this concoction along with manure in the ground beforehand. Had to water 5 or 6 times I guess before the rain took over. But I blame this cocktail and great hot weather. Last summer was a washout. Didn't use my cocktail, so I still have it in the tank ready to stir up and get going again in a few weeks.

He, simsedward, about chile club. It's not really a club, just a time and place where kids can challenge one another to eat hot chiles. It began in 2008 when I had a great harvest of Bhut Jolokia, cayenne, hot paper lantern, super chile, tepin and others. I brought in a basket of ripe red ones and in it was a small jar full of the tepins. I set it on my desk and during a studyhall, one kid asked about them. I described all of them and then a Chinese kid in the front row said "I bet I can eat that" referring to the tepin. I said "go ahead" and with those two words, the Chile Club was born. By the end of the day, at least 20 students came doen to try some hot stuff and we went all the way to the Bhut Jolokia (only small slivers, of course). Some people worry about lawsuits and such, but I'm not one of them. Basically, I try my best to discourage them, making it clear that they are "hotter than anything you could ever even imagine", but that just makes them want them all the more. Most importantly, I set a few rules: 1) no chile leaves the room, 2) wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. We usually unly meet during the first quarter wen the harvest is coming in. I have also found that the "members" are adventurous and willing to try other foods such as durian. It's a fun thing to do, and the kids get pretty excited about it too.

I, too, was once the victim of a bad tile job in our new basement bathroom several years ago - so I do understand the anxiety of deciding what is "good enough". On this forum after I posted pics, Bill and others said something that resonated - as long as they can do poor tile jobs like that and still get paid 100% of their money and move on, they will continue to do so. Then I realized that if I bought a $50K car and the doors didn't line up, I wouldn't accept it - and they would have to fix it or give me a new car - period. What is the difference? In the end, the tile was done and redone THREE times at the installer's expense. Natural stone ain't cheap. And guess what? I love my bathroom and am happy I stood my ground every time I walk in there. My GC for the basement remodel no longer uses that tile installer so maybe I saved someone else some heartache down the line. Thank you, again, to Bill for being such an amazing resource! And I still donate money to help ensure that bulletproof and stabproof vests are available to police dogs :), which is the only thank you I've seen him request.

ladyrose, did you have a trade list in place when the change to Houzz happened.... I thought all had been restored, the link is in the article here.... https://support.houzz.com/hc/en-us/articles/204109398-Where-is-my-Trade-List- To edit your trade list, go to your profile page, then click on Edit Profile, then Advanced Settings. On that edit screen, you will see a box marked My GardenWeb Trading List. You can make changes there, be sure to save any changes.... I didn't have a trade list up but did have some clippings stored, someone gave me the instructions on how to bring those back manually. It would probably work for the trade list too, if you don't find yours let me know and I'll look for those instructions again (involved googling my GW name and finding the 'cache')

Phish! Great can! It's so amazing to see all the different versions! I love that we do this! I like the way you did the handle and the spout the same theme with the glass nuggets! And the crash glass is a surprise inside! Too cool!!!

HRSG: I REALLY like the gradient effect! Nicely done!

CRYSTAL01: We made similar flowers :) I like the handle especially. Wish I'd thought of that!

LADYRONNIE: Those fish are just too...wait a minute! I made that one! ;)

I was gonna put half marbles around just above the mirror so didn't clean the grout up well there, then discovered I didn't have enough marbles and couldn't afford the time to try to come up with more. I didn't want to mess up the paint then trying to get the grout cleaned up better after it had dried. So pretend that's supposed to be a muddy bank above the "pond" :)

BAMA: The green inside part is painted. I was going to mosaic it, but painting was much faster and I didn't have to grout it! The fish are clear collage glass, so the original orange shows through.

Barb, the can you got from Ronnie is so beautiful!!!! The extra couple of days waiting for the cans have been so worth it...they all ROCK!!!!

Ronnie, I love how you kept the original color of the can. I was going to leave the inside of mine orange, but after I finished the mosaic it didn't look right anymore so I painted it black.
My DD noticed the fish first on the inside of the can...clever idea! You did a wonderful job on it!

OMG...these are all so wonderful. It's so interesting to see all the different, clever ideas that people come up with!! I'm a little late on responding to this, so all my comments are coming at one time...here goes!

hrsg - so pretty - and how clever to use the sun on the spout! And love what you did on the inside. Great job!

crystal - fabulous design - love that picket fence - well, just love every part of it, really.

phish - oooooh - love that flowy design and the blues are beautiful. And the crash glass at the bottom - very clever and pretty!

and ladyronnie - wow - you outdid yourself! Just beautiful. And love the bottom - with the fish - how imaginative!!! And what a great job painting the inside - it looks like stained glass!

I think that was all - hope I didn't miss one.

my first idea but it didn't turn out like I'd hoped on my test patch (the hidden bottom). I had painted various spots and wanted to see if it showed through the crash glass but it didn't as much as I would have liked, so I abandoned my crash glass plan and did the rest in blue!

It was fun to drop it off in person because I saw all the ball's in front that crafty_lady had or had made and I think I had seen some of them posted here on the site before? I was so hoping crafty_lady didn't see me in person, though, because I had also stopped at my friend's pool after work and was wearing a wet tshirt, orange shorts, a wet towel and hot pink swim shoes! It might have been a good color combination for a mosaic, but not for a wardrobe!

I didn't realize so many Michigan people are on this site. shrty411 I live in Ann Arbor. And yes, let me know next time you make the pilgrimage to Delphi! (even though east Lansing is a hike, we're so lucky to have it!)

Well, shoot phish, you are just down the road!! I'm close to Ford Lake. The first time I went to Delphi it took about an hour. That was before the work on 23. I think from Barb's it took about 1 1/2 hr. Even with gas, it saves shipping and I like to see the colors in person!

Thanks everyone. The fish idea came first, to use clear glass that would make orange fish; the rest of it just evolved around the "pond" idea. What's funny is, I used clear tessarae for the dragonfly, and kept seeing it "clear" for two weeks after I stuck it on there. It dawned on me one day, once it had green glass around it, that it would forever be orange! Oh well!

Wow Maria, the can you did is beautiful!!!! Did you cut out the hummingbirds? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the colors!!!!
The ladybug really pops and the butterfly on the spout is a nice touch.

Whew, thanks everyone. The thing just kept giving me fits!

The 'moving butterfly" I picked up at the $store at the last minute. I didn't know what to do with it, then I found the magnet worked, so I just sort of added it in there.

Barb-those hummingbirds were on a hummingbird feeder that leaked. I wish I could cut ANYTHING that good!! LOL

My can is from curbdiver!!!
It's a beautiful combination of china and glass! A beautiful rose plate adorns one side circled by more china. A wonderful glass glob diamond pattern is on the other. The fill in is a wonderful irridized light blue/pink glass.

BEAUTIFUL!!! THANK YOU PAT!!!

Glad you like it, crystal! I was so worried, cause it's slightly out of the "norm". Couldn't decide on grout color - actually couldn't find one I liked. Wanted it to look "old-ish" like it had been around a while and been thru a bit in it's day. So-o-o-o-o....ended up using tea to stain it - That's what created the variations in grout color!

The pattern is "Everlasting"...wish I could remember the manufacturer...Wedgwood comes to mind, but that isn't necessarily the most reliable!! All the china parts are from that pattern.

Bama - forgot to answer your question about cutting the gg's....just took my tile nippers, lined 'em up and (amid lots of moaning and grunting!) kept squeezing till they snapped! SOme were too thick for my strength, but a little picking and choosing to find the right ones made it work out OK.

Pat, I love the china plate you used and I never would have thought to use tea to stain grout. It DOES look like it has been used and has been around for awhile.
