type of glass for window inside shower
Comments (10)My previous house had a large window in the shower as well. I used obscured glass, and you're instinct is right....you get nowhere near the same amount of light as from clear glass. (As an aside to this question, I opted for a vinyl window in the shower and was glad I did...NO question of rot). In my current kitchen remodel, I had a sort-of similar issue...windows looking directly out onto a sort of light well between row houses...a very unattractive view. After exploring the options, I opted for cascade glass. Most window companies offer it or smoething like it...sometimes called rain glass...and a whole slew of other textured glass options. Many of them are much clearer than the obscured glass and let a lot more light in, while still blocking the view. You might find that you're still not comfortable standing in the altogether in front of some...I would think someone outside might be able to guess that the blur they see is a body in a shower...but others could work well. I'd check out the options available....See Morewindow grilles/muntons, or plain?
Comments (1)Contoured do look better in the window, but will still fall short of authentic feeling if that is what you are going for. In most cases, people on the sidewalk can't tell the difference. Most of the times that we do SDLs it is either for historic compliance or more often, the customer wants that look and feel on the home. I think you should probably go with the grids top sash. Looks very good to my eye and I agree, no grids anywhere else....See MoreAdvice on Window Grills for New Windows-Modern Farmhouse Update
Comments (8)By beefing them up, I'm suggesting the grilles be thicker in dimension. You cannot divide the current grille because 'lights" in windows are never that ratio of height versus width. You're the one trying to turn a ranch into a farmhouse. A lot of professionals would not recommend that....See Morewindows- combination grill/ no grill
Comments (14)Question @Windows on Washington - you wrote “I can see no reason for SDL in today's day and age.” what windows would you use for your own home, if cost isn’t a factor? Just curious, I asked the same question recently about swimming pool construction, interesting to see what contractors & suppliers would use for their own homes....See More- 14 years ago
