I think it's fine to mix styles when it works, but I don't think that rug would work with that furniture. Just MHO of course.

On a side note, I've seen that rug in the store and I don't think it would be large enough for under your furniture - unless you ordered a larger size from their website of course. So are you wanting it under the table, or elsewhere in the room? That could make a difference.

You already have all the stuff, so nothing to lose by trying it out in the room.

I absolutely think mixing traditional with transitional or modern pieces works well. In principle I think the style/pattern of the rug could go well with the furniture, though I do wonder if the colors will work. Give it a try before the trouble of painting the walls and post some pictures (if you still want feedback). As chispa said, you already have everything so you lose nothing by trying it out.

Give it a try! The rug isn't a new pattern, instead, it looks like an antique tapestry. I think it'd be beautiful.

I think the problem with the two will lie with the fact that the rug reads a little casual to me in relation to your furniture. It also might be too busy a pattern to work with your furniture.

No reason not to try it though.

Love that rug! However I would pick up the gold color for the walls. BM Roasted Sesame Seed would be a good contender. Another color direction would be a soft green picking up the color in the leaves. Something like Martha Stewart Tadpole Green. A trellis print fabric in chocolate/white for the drapes picking up the brown in the rug's background would be fun. Regarding the furniture, would you consider painting it black and applying a wax to give it a warm handrubbed glow? It would look fantastic!

I think it would look great, hope you can get a good size. You'll probably need somewhere around an 8' x 10'

I think the orange tones in the rug would be lovely with the wood tones. I have the same dining set as yours, but yours has a lighter/warmer tone which I prefer.
The surface of our table in in poor shape, so I plan on painting it glossy black and also making the inner shield part of the chairs black as well. If I had your set, I'd leave them alone ;)

Love those dining chairs and the rug! I like a little drama so to tie it all in I would change the lighting to something a bit more dramatic and maybe think about the seat covers.

Most decorators really like to mix it up and give suggestions to help tie things together.

Try a light beige color chair cover to tie in that light color in the rug. I have seen some nice tailored seat covers and also some nice casual ones ( scroll down to the dining pic in the link attached

I have the exact same buffet chairs and table. Its amazing how different fabrics really make the set take on a different look.

This thread raised a question for me and I hope someone can answer it. Your beautiful rug is a Jacobean print, and I was under the impression that Jacobean prints are traditional. Is that not correct?

A Jacobean print is absolutely a traditional pattern, and I think the rug will be stunning with your furniture. I like kmcg85's suggestions for wall colors to consider, if you haven't fully committed to the SW Latte. Your room is going to be so pretty with these elements combined!

I think the wall color/window treatments and chair seat choices can make it work. I would look to pull out colors in the rug. You will have enough brown. What other colors in the rug would you like to pull forward? You had a thread on the widow coverings, what did you decide?

auntjen is absolutely correct - the Jacobean design is great. Just make sure you have at least 18" past the back of your chairs for pull-out. DO NOT paint this set.

I love SW Latte, but I would rather see SW Restrained Gold on walls & Ivoire on ceiling. And lush orange/red silk draperies with woven wood roman shades underneath. Bring in the green from the rug in accessories.
