How should I handle this wood work?? pics

I have a kitchen and family room that are separated by a half wall. I painted the kitchen red and just last week painted the baseboards a creamy white. DH really doesnt want me to paint the grids (not sure of the correct name - mulliuns??) on the sliding French doors for some reason. Our family room is my next agenda. I havent touched this room since we've moved here because it really stumps me. I hate the beams on the ceiling which are supposed to be decorative, I guess. My problem arise with both the beams and the large door leading into the sunroom. Will it look ok to paint the frame of the door the same as the baseboards (creamy white) and leave the door stained as I did in the kitchen?? Also, how do you think it would look to paint the beams white (seems to be a lot of trim pieces around the beams too) and paint the ceiling a shade different than my eventual wall color (SW Believable buff or Ivoire). I really need some advice for this cookie cutter 80's home!!
