How To Secure Custom Stained Glass Window to Vinyl Window?
Comments (3)I think you may be misundersstanding what mulling means. Mulling means "to attach". As an example, when we take 2 identical windows, there is a design in the frame like an accessory groove that allows us to attach the 2 windows together with a piece of vinyl and thus eliminate a wood mullion in the middle, thus the word "mull". What I am understanding is you have is a piece of glass with no frame that you want to use with a door. If that's the case, then I would do a seperate cut-out above the door opening, frame it out, flash it and then install the glass. It's critical that this be done properly so that there's no chance of water penetrating. Again, I recommend you not try to do this yourself unless you have some carpentry experience. Especially if it's going to involve cutting into the walls....See MoreThinking about installing Jeld-Wen Premium Vinyl Windows...
Comments (116)Grande - I'm not promoting Pella at all I'm just offering my opinion as someone who has used them and from contractors I've spoken to. To say they are garbage is contrary to what I have experienced and heard, of course there are better windows and there are also personal preferences involved. However I would bet that you are a window salesman and your comments should have that disclosure so people can understand what your motive is. Comparing JW to Pella is laughable...just look at the comments on this thread. I also steer clear of anyone stating something as fact...with no eveidence to support their "facts". "Anyone in windows knows this, it's a fact" is a very adolescent type comment. If you don't like Pella fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but try to state reasons other than obscure comments packed with innuendos. I am not saying Pella are the best windows, I'm saying they are decent and in my opinion I would use them over JW just from a support perspective. I don't know the other windows you suggested but I did say there are many local manufacturers that offer good alternatives...perhaps those are but I personally don't know....See MoreGorell vinyl replacement windows & Pella installer concerns
Comments (1)Hadn't really planned to reply to my own posting, but here goes. After I got all of my estimates, I decided to go with the Pella Impervias. The vinyl quotes were all higher than the quote I got for the Impervias (Pella was running a promotion), and I think the style/color/performance of the Impervias is much better than any of the vinyls I looked at. I opted for double hungs with a contemporary vent, and the Low E/Ar glass option. The local Pella shop is handling the install, and their installer is Pella certified, so I'm just going to have to trust that by using the manufacturers certified installer I don't run into any problems with the install or warranty claims....See MoreViWinTech window Good or Bad? There are brands mentioned here almost daily that most all of the pros will recommend as good windows. What is available to you can be somewhat location specific however....See More- 17 years ago
