replacing basement windows

I own a 1920's colonial in a suburb just outside Boston. The windows in the main part of the house were all replaced with double hung, vinyls(i think) before I bought in 2004.My focus now is the basement. There are 4 ?original wood frame single hung windows. They are all in bad condition--cracked,rotting sills, don't stay shut.I want to replace them. I've seen a style called "basement hopper" on Lowe's and HD sites--Can I use these? I'm not trying to maintain any special architectural integrity and I don't want to spend a lot. Just want to have new, secure windows. Also, there is a door in this basement,so I don't think I need theses windows for egress. What do you all recommend? Thanks,Jardinista
