feeling down and maybe selfish someone set me straight

Okay, I am sitting here finding myself near tears. I dont know if I am just pmsing or if it is stress or what but...

I am at work (working hard obviously) and today are the kids' end of the year parties and the awards ceremony. The kids asked me to go but I couldnt take off of work to go. Right now we are down to one car because DH's car blew up and wasn't worth fixing. DH is also out of work because he hurt his arm at work and needed surgery and is currently recovering. BM works all of two maybe three days a week and started back up with her I cant afford to do this and I cant afford to do that. So things like football that was due a week ago landed on my shoulders. I can't afford to take off of work because I am out of PTO time (which was used up for DH's surgery) and I am pretty much financially bearing the brunt for everyone. But, I am okay with this...well at least I thought I was.

I really wanted to go to the kids' parties and see them get their awards. I tried to borrow my moms car so that I could just run to the school on my lunch break and see everyone and then go back to work...but that didnt end up working out either. So, I just called DH to see how everything was going and to make sure he took the cupcakes for everyone's classes. Well, he tells me how much fun my daughter is having helping the different teachers out with handing out the food and how excited she is that she will be going to the school next year. He tells me about how much fun the kids are having and that BM is being really nice (which happens in a blue moon) and that well a good time is being had by all basically. And, while I am very happy for him and them ... dammit I want to be there. But, no... I am at work trying to support my family and hers basically ... and well I am upset. I know I shouldnt be but I am. I work so hard to make everything work out for everyone and make sure everyone has what they need... Why should I miss out on the fun stuff? Why should I be the one cooped up in an office watching the time slowly click by (we are slow this time of year) ... somewhere in the back of mind I think they aren't even really my kids and I am the one doing all of the sacrificing for them why arent they having to be at work missing out on the fun stuff... I am not supposed to be the parent (at least that is what everyone always says) so why shouldnt I get to do the fun stuff and be the fun person... instead I have to miss out and dissapoint (when ss pratically begged me to come to his party because he "really really wanted me there") because that is the responsible thing to do. But, ofcourse I would never not do for my kids because my heart claimed them a long time ago... but I am just so bummed... I need to snap out of this somehow.
