Is or has anyone planned anything as a surprise for FI at wedding

I would love to surprise my fiance with something special big or small doesn't matter, but something that he does not know about and will be a good memory for him. He is very involved in our wedding planning (just as much if not more than me). So he is quite aware of everything at this point. Any suggestions for some kind of special surprise or romantic notion?

Here is an idea that I might be using. The lady who will be doing our pictures told me about this...and will do it for me...After I have my hair trial I will get into my dress and she will take some portrait pictures that we will then frame and at the reception I will give to my new husband. At first I thought it was kinda cheesy, but after talking it over with friends and family they all think it is a sweet idea. And then I get to wear my dress more than once!

I cannot tell you how comforting it is to have all your support and advice! Lowspark, I am going to commit your suggested script to memory. It's perfect. However, I have reason to think that I may catch a lucky break and not have to do anything. My closest friend, "Fifi," who, as it goes around here, is sort of organizing all the people who want to help, is working on the Friday night dinner for the out of towners, along with "Kiki," who is hosting it at her house (I know!), and several others. Fifi just told me that AFTER (I checked) I had that conversation with Lulu and Cathy, Cathy sent Fifi an email saying something like "be sure to include us in whatever you're planning for the wedding." The wording wasn't crystal clear, but both Fifi and I got the sense she was speaking for Lulu, too. So that would mean that Fifi and Kiki, who already have 4 others on their "team," would get another 2 pairs of hands and financial contributions for what is really a big job, which I know Fifi appreciates (I hope Kiki does -- Fifi will handle that, bless her). Now, how did I not give "Cathy" a silly name, too? It also means no shower here. I doubt Thing One will care, and they certainly don't need another set of gifts, but FMTO may be disappointed. I doubt she'll be destroyed, though, and in the end she may be glad not to have to plan another trip (I am sure her relatives won't be disappointed not to have to come here twice). If she really, really wants another shower, well -- Thing Two and FMTO's sister both live in Boston, as, I believe, do some of FMTO's friends; maybe they will give her a shower -- I can slip Thing Two some $$ to help. (Yes, they are immediate family, but they are also bridesmaid and MOH, so I suppose that would be okay.) But I am going to keep my big mouth shut about that for now! This certainly is an example of not doing or saying anything until you must -- sometimes the problem changes or even goes away entirely. Glad I didn't say anything to Lulu yet.

I had both ;) my first wedding was a huge shindig with many many bridesmaids, 200 guests, gorgeous location, catered dinner, special cake, two bands.... etc.... My second wedding was a very intimate affair, 20 guests, all family except for my best friend and his best friend. If I were to get married again, I'd elope. Come back and throw the party after, without all the stress. It's YOUR day. If you think you might regret not having a big wedding, have the big wedding. Remember that you will not be able to fully enjoy it because your bridesmaid will be crying because she's not your maid of honor, your groomsmen will drunkenly flirt with your sister, your mother will be mad because the flowers didn't show up, your husband will be stressed and frazzled because you are, you will have to "glad-hand" so much it won't be about you and your new DH it will be about Aunt Sally who has a shellfish allergy and has to be rushed to ER... you get the point. A wedding is a poor excuse for a party. DON'T forgo a wedding if that's what you really want. You can't go back and do it again. Even if you do "do it again" like me :) This is it. But, if I were you, having gone through what I did and done it two different ways, I'd get married, small ceremony, and have a nice party later for all of your friends. You'll be more relaxed and you'll have more fun. JMO. Congratulations!!!!

@LisaKoback We are building the La meilleure vie plan by David Wiggins also and we are looking for a basement plan with steel beams and I-joist instead of the wooden laminated beams that Wiggins provided for us. I heard that they want a mood board. I am not sure what this means exactly. If I was a stylist, I would want to see my client in photos in everyday clothing, work clothing, dressy casual and dressy. Clothing and sizes are so difficult. I was just at Ann Tylor Loft. I wanted a new pair of jeans. I can wear from a 4 to an 8 there! How ridiculous. Tops can be XXXS, which is also absurd since they still go up to Large and sometimes XL. So even if the shopper would ask me what size I am at Loft, I really can't say. I guess they want you to give measurements of your body, will ask for weight and height which would help. Ded, in the example of my friend, they sent her a knit black and white stripe skirt. Something she would never even look at in a store. She wore it out to lunch with me during the summer. It was really cute. Luckily she has a top that complemented the skirt because not every top would look good with it. I read a blog and the writer did not like anything in three different orders except a pair of jeans. She felt the process was worthwhile since well fitting jean can be a challenge. in the case of my niece, (not sure which one she uses but I can find out) her buyer had her down. She sent very unusual dresses and they all fit. As I mentioned some she bought to keep. It's funny though. Since I do a lot of online shopping being petite, I sometimes feel like I am getting a mystery box because sometimes the colors and styles wind up being very different from the photos.

My husband had a song dedicated to me at our reception. I thought it was very romantic. The dj handed him the mic to make the dedication himself. It was so sweet!

If you and your fiance have a special song or something you'd like to say to him, that's a great time! And he's sure to remember it!

My husband got the cd and slipped it to the dj during the reception without my knowing and hubby was very involved in all our wedding plans, but I never suspected a thing!

If you aren't having a dj, you could ask someone to slip that song into your music at some point.

Here are some surprises I have seen/heard of/done:

- Bagpipes at the wedding (husband is part scottish, so it was a nod to his family)
- Cigar Bar at reception (husband loves cigars and he participated with the guests)
- Ice Martini bar (bar carved out of ice and served his favorite drink)
- Surprise guest (a close friend or family member that groom didn't think could come to celebration showed up as a surprise)
- A surprise groom's cake representing his hobbies
- Having a snack brought to your wedding night suite/room of his favorite treats for after the reception
- A gift given to him right before the ceremony with a nice card expressing how you are looking forward to getting married to him - cufflinks, watch, tie, pen, etc.

You could write him a poem about why you married him or what you hope your future will be like.

Since we are getting married in my country and no family or friends can make the trip..all his friends got together and made a video wishing him well. I am going to play it during the reception.
