Pella - Pictures! Grid or No Grid?

SO far so good -

they screwed up the hardware a bit (long story on that one - bad sales rep didn't know anything tried to upcharge us over $160 PER window for something we were told was standard!

but after all the hastle I LIKE THEM!

I honestly would have gone all vinyl but DH wanted wood interior - can't really touch them too much yet - they aren't poly'd yet - but I figured I would show a picture o rtwo

- oh and the door is Therma Tru not Pella - and it was the wrong door - but that brings me to my question -

WHAT DO YOU THINK

we ordered all the grids they are in the boxes still - but DH really likes the look without them (even got grids for the slider) and if we pull the grid from the door (it ir removable) it might look nice -

This is just my personal opinion--

I hate those fake grids. I think if you want the look of divided lights, you should GET divided lights. Otherwise...GRIDLESS!

I think the grids just look fake and cheap.

But hey, that's just me!

I got the Pella with the grids, and shades also. I wanted the grids, and liked them, but decided they were too busy on upper s and lowers both, so took the lower ones out. Now I am happy! I like the clean view on the lowers, and the uppers give a touch of the traditional. We have them on the Pella doors too, and I am happy with it. Why don't you try them in the window and see? You could still return them.

I wouldn't go too light on the gray-something that matches the mid-tone gray stone. I like your wood door but if you change it out for fiberglass or steel, you can avoid a storm door altogether, which makes for a much cleaner look. At the very least, use a full lite storm door painted in the same color as the front door. It's going to be a fantastic project. I hope you'll keep us updated with progress pics!

I love black windows with large grids. Do at least all of them in your public rooms for continuity from inside. Do all on front elevation (obv.) Have you chosen window vendor/brand? Hubs just retired from FD. They’re awful to go through and rebuild from. That said, there is at least some tiny consolation in getting everything all new again. Just tiny, though 👌🏻 especially if you lost irreplaceable items. Not exactly the favored way to get a remodel. Good luck.

As far as pricing, think about it this way: GBG's are one "set" of grids between the glass. SDL's have the same thing, in addition to two more sets (one interior and one exterior). These are arbitrary numbers, but if GBG is $100 per window, the SDL's would therefore be something like $300 +/-. This isn't an exact science as GBG's may be priced "per window" and SDL's "per lite", but it should be in that general vicinity in terms of the ratio. Yes, it should be relatively easy for a window company to give you at least a reaosnable idea of where they would land on both.

I ordered the clip-on grids for French doors once. I thought I liked them, but after one month of looking through them in the winter, I took them down. It was hard to believe how much more light came into the room. I never put them back in the doors. Now I don't think I would ever do divided light again - "grided" or "real" - I like the true light coming in to the house much better.

I clean windows and last year did over 300 homes. I found with pella windows the grids are painted facing out and stained facing in. If you think they look great over time that the paint chips and your have to re do them. 90% of my customers that have grids only put them on the front of the house.
