Junior Bridesmaids

I have a junior bridesmaid in the wedding. I was wanting her dress to be a different color than the bridesmaids. Maybe a way to incorporate the second color more into the wedding. Would this be ok? I just wanted other opinions. :)

sure, it would be OK.

If I were the one picking, I'd have her match them in at least one way--either in style of dress (but different color) or different style of dress (but same color)

You'll also want to balance off how much it'll matter to your junior bridesmaid whether she'll look just like the big girls. Some girls might find that symbolism of the matching dress to be very important. Others will enjoy looking a little special.

My junior bridesmaid and junior groomsman were dressed just like the "big kids." But that was my preference. The different color would be fine.

MOH is often in a different color, so why couldn't the junior BM?

my junior bridesmaids will be wearing silver. bridesmaids will be wearing purple, and maid and maitron of honor will be wearing blue. or something like that. i might just throw away the purple, but i love the way those three colors look together. i'm also allowing my bridesmaids to choose their own style of dress, because not everybody looks good in the same style and i want them to feel as beautiful as i will. anyway, back on the subject, i think that it will be fine to have them in a different color. if they start to fuss about it or get upset, just tell them that their color is special...or something. depends on the age of the child really.

i LOVE this thread! thanks so much for posting your pics. i enjoy seeing all of them. i got married in '92 in the heat of august. had to wait for hubby to finish with exams. i was working at W back then and we had just done a story on a new wedding dress designer named carmela sutera. i drew my dream dress and brought it to her -and she loved it so much she did a similar version for her line that year, minus the sleeves. i was too young to care that she ripped me off and just so happy to have a custom dress. she charged me half her custom fee which was still too much! looking at this picture now, i'm sorry dh and i didn't wear those very chic glasses boxer is sporting. oh well, live and learn...

I think it is nice when the girls can select the shoes that they want. They are already wearing matching dresses - they don't need to have the same shoes. I think this is good because some people feel more comfortable in flats and not heels, and people also have various feet widths. What is good about letting them choose the shoes is that they can find something they may wear again. I think this works especially well when the girls are wearing long dresses, because most people won't even see the shoes!

My high school buddy is getting married and his fiance and I have become good friends over the last couple years. She has invited me to be part of her wedding party with a total of six bridesmaids and one junior bridesmaid. I have only been in one other wedding and the Bridal Shower was a gift from her mother and I was not involved in any of the planning. I suppose my thought process is naive, but I recently ran into one of the bride's good friends/bridesmaid who said the moms, maid of honor and her just had a bridal party meeting the day before. I wasn't aware of this and with the wedding in August and trying to just come up with money to pay for the down payment on the dress, I hadn't even thought about a bridal shower. The mother of the bride contacted me yesterday as a message was put out to everyone and I was accidentally left off to discuss plans further. To be honest, this is all financially overwhelming at the moment. My impression from the conversations at this point is that everyone needs to have a part in paying for the event. I'm not trying to be rude, but should I have known this or should someone had asked me or suggested to me that I help pay as oppose to just assuming? I can absolutely give my time, but financially I cannot give much. I don't want to be a jerk and not help financially, but is it okay (as I feel it would be smart) to tell everyone what I am realistically able to contribute? I want the bride to have a nice party of course, but waiting for the mom to come up with how much family is going to be invited and what-not and making me nervous. I thought it was also best to ask the bride who she wants to come in case we miss someone and I was also told it is important in case she rather someone not come. What is everyone's thoughts about the bride knowing when the party is? So far I heard, she should know so that she can properly be prepared. Of course we would make sure she looks cute.

Thanks to all you wonderful ladies for your time and responses. I will try to touch on a few things now... mom2emall - If this wonderful man and I do decide to get married in the next couple of years, his DD9 and DD5 would be perfect ages for to be a junior bridesmaid/flower girl, respectively. I would definitely hope they would want to do this. When he discussed with them previously how they would feel if we got married, being able to be a "flower girl" was their only concern! LOL. Also, my boyfriend's family *all* lives overseas (his mother, brother, friends, aunts, uncles and cousins do, his father is deceased) and I don't know how they would even be able to afford to come...another painful sticking point, let alone take care of the girls. fiveinall - I have heard of the family ring exchange, sometimes I guess it's with necklaces or bracelets too. This is a must! imamommy - I agree that leaving from the wedding right to the honeymoon might make the girls feel a little dumped-off. As much as I would love to take a limo right to the airport...point noted. JNM - The girls have never met anyone from my family and have never traveled to the west coast (they live in the south and we live in the northeast). My family has only ever seen photos of them. So...the expense and logistical issues are enough to give me many sleepless nights and I think would challenge any wedding planner...and we aren't even formally engaged yet! Thanks again =-)

Sure it would be perfectly acceptable to have them in a different color. When my brother was married years ago, all the bridesmaids were wearing a different color. All different pastel colors. Looked really nice. You can do anything you want to...it's your wedding. NancyLouise

I have thought about the same idea for my junior bridesmaid. My bridesmaids (who are close friends) are wearing wine and my junior bridesmaid (my niece) and my matron of honor (my sister) are wearing champagne. I'm glad to hear that someone else had this idea!

Many jr. bridesmaids are too young to dress like the big girls, so it is most appropriate for them to look their age, including wearing a different color.

my sister, who is gonna be 12 at the wedding, is actually in matching color as the rest of the BMs are, her dress is a different style, more appropriate to a little girl...i think that way you keep the uniformit and also don't have to incorporate another color if you don't want to.

Hi, I'm new around here! But I found this forum so interesting because I had the same thing going on with my junior bridesmaid! I decided to have my matron of honor and my junior bridesmaid wearing a darker purple color in the same dress as my bridesmaids but with theirs a lighter color purple. I thought people might think it odd but I am glad to see it isn't so uncommon!
