Wedding Vendor Help!

I'm from CA and have recently moved to MA where I'm going to be getting married in December. I'm having a really hard time finding vendors, specifically photographers. Since I don't know many people around here, I'm not sure how to find the best vendors and compare them. Any suggestions?

Have you contacted a wedding coordinator? You will find that they may not cost as much as you expect and they will have information on the better vendors. Some offer a free initial consultation.

If you don't want to talk with a coordinator, then ask at your venue, your DJ, and even your caterer for recommendations, bearing in mind that they may know the person but haven't seen their finished work.

If there are wedding shows in your area, you might want to attend one. That way, you can actually visit with vendors in person as well as seeing their photos.

Have you tried You be the Wedding Planner? It's a webiste that I've been using it to help me find videographers. They have lots of videographers, photgraphers, and dj's, and each one has a short video where they talk about what they do. I'm finding it helpful to be able to see them side-by-side to compare and not have to waste time with those I don't like. Hope that helps! Good luck planning your special day.

Given as favors, I would give relatively large bulbs of something less expensive rather than small lily bulbs (which the JP bulbs are going to be) for this reason: Lilies are 'fresh' bulbs and never dormant. They need immediate planting after they're received from the shipper. When your guests plant their bulbs, they are going to expect something spectacular. Unless they're gardeners familiar with lily culture they may be disappointed by a small, inexpensive bulb that is slow to perform. In the fall, hyacinths might meet your needs. For non-gardeners, they can be forced in water and tossed after they bloom. People with flower beds can incorporate their hyacinth and it will return for a number of years. Pink or blue hyacinth bulbs are colorful as well. You'll need to warn people, however, that hyacinth bulbs handled with bare hands may have a tendency to make one itch. You also get a pretty bloom from the slightly smaller (less expensive) hyacinth bulbs-- they just don't have as long a stem, which tends to fall over anyway. In my experience, hyacinths are less likely to be eaten by squirrels than crocus, unless you use Tommies if you're giving spring crocus. You might research fall crocus; they are shipped in early September. Shipping dates may be a concern, too. Gladioli in May or June would work well. I've had good results from glads from the dollar store at 4/$1, so you could use inexpensive glad bulbs and expect good results. They're easy; plant and water. Glad bulbs are colorful too if you choose dark colors. I hope you find a bulb that will meet your needs and budget and give your guests something to look forward to bloom and remind of you for years. There are often receptions or parties after the wedding. But I have never seen anyone wearing a bridal gown at one just so those who weren't at the wedding could see it. I'm assuming you are talking about a traditional wedding gown. But it was a small ceremony; perhaps you wore a terrific "regular" dress? If so, I absolutely would go ahead and wear it again for the party. That you wore it for your wedding doesn't mean it needs to be enshrined forever! If it's a traditional gown and veil -- well, you know your group, and we don't. So I don't know if they really are all that worked up about seeing you wearing a wedding gown, or if they will be thinking it seems a bit silly, or some of each. In any case, I assume all these people love you, so I don't think you have a problem with anyone permanently thinking anything bad. If you have your heart set on wearing your gown again, who is it hurting? I think the bigger issue is how YOU will feel. The fact that you are asking here makes me suspect that you feel uneasy about it, and if you plan to wear it, you will be second-guessing yourself from now until the party and all through the party, worried that you will feel foolish, which will reduce your own pleasure. If you wear a terrific regular outfit, you will for sure feel confident. Believe me, you will still be The Bride! Maybe wear some flowers, too. Thanks everyone. Patti you may be right about the cream vs the white. I am a pale-skinned, freckled redhead and even though i do have a lot of white blouses, I really do not look good in white. And I love Steinmart! I think I will stop in there tomorrow and also there is a TJMAXX in the same shopping center. I am 60 yrs old, tall, but 30 pounds overweight (recently lost 35, 30 more to go) and busty, I was thinking a print might make me look fatter. I have a cute new top that is a leopard print, but wondered if it would be too much! My DD tells me I dress too much like an old lady, well I am one. Maybe I will pick up a couple tops and have a pre-party fashion show for DH and DD. I appreciate the great ideas!

Thank you for sharing this list and video! I believe several of these may only no longer be in commerce in the North American market? Many of the roses on the list are still sold on DA's UK site. I don't fully understand how these patents work, or how DA chooses what they will keep selling in which market, but the situation seems to be quite different between EU and US in terms of which roses are rare. And now with Brexit the UK market is distinct too. I find it fascinating how the different markets and the restrictions on international shipping create rarity, and with that a bit of panic. When I got Wild Edric it felt really special, but stressful too. I felt like I had to do everything in my power to keep it alive. I now realize it is available from the UK DA site, and from a great deal of EU sellers. I still love that rose (mmmm that fragrance!), but I don't feel the anxiety anymore. Of course, many of the roses on your list are truly hard to find anywhere in the world! I think those would deserve a category of their own, as they are really at risk of being lost.

I was reading a few wedding blogs and ran across a photographer on the east coast that had awesome photos. I saw they went to NJ, NY & Conn IIRC, not sure how far up they go.

I'll have to see if I can find the link. Pretty sure I started off with tea length wedding dresses then ended up a various blogs where someone mentioned their photographer

Be careful about hiring a vendor that you have not actually met or received and checked references on. A person can tell you anything. One of the big issues with a photographer is the person's personality. If you don't click with them, it will show in your photos. You need someone that you are comfortable with. Many offer a free or low-cost engagement session so you can get to know each other.
