I finally got around to working on this tea set! Couldn't find paint and had to make do...but as of today it has a green wash on it. Painted these silver candle sticks white, they'll be made into something purty soon :D Come see my pics!

Hi kudzu, I'm working on a fabric garland that I seen on a site i found through I think a post on GJ. Anyways, I'm going to tie the pieces of fall material on orange trinkle lights. I'm on the look out for ideals for items for in my shop next fall....

Talk about improvising!!! Green food coloring in white paint!! Go Girl!! I never would have thought of that!! The potato soup is about way I make it. Mom makes it with leftover mashed potatoes, milk ,celery or peas, butter & onion for a quick meal. They are on low sodium diet so leave out bacon. Did you set your linen cloth with vinegar so color doesn't come out. I used to do that when I dyed something. Can't wait to see the tea set further along, I think it will be really beautiful!! Jan

Babka! That's beautiful! Thank you for the pictures. I know what you mean about the ends. In crochet, I usually work over the ends, then trim them. In knit, it's much harder to do that, but I try to weave most of them in as I go with a needle. Tami....who's glad to see some activity on the knitting board!

I agree with you...velvet has several forms/content. I still don't know all about it, but ordering swatches has helped me. My local Jo Ann's fabric store has a limited selection and it seems a little stretchy to me...like it's meant for apparel & not for pillows. I did see a nice thick velvet sample in their special order section. That type would be good for upholstery. About a year ago I purchased 100% cotton velvet made by Duralee. It was for accent pillows in my FR. I liked the shade of gray and I liked the feel of 100% cotton. I washed the sample and hung to dry & there was no shrinkage : ) This 100% cotton velvet has what I would describe as a very short nap with no shine. If you rub your hand across it, you won't see a change in texture. The current pillows that I want to make for the LR are going to be Duralee 100% polyester velvet. This velvet has a nap, shine, & what I describe as a "crushed" texture. Once again, I washed the sample and no shrinkage/change. I'm still waiting for this fabric to be delivered (hopefully tomorrow). I would have liked the cotton velvet in this room as well, but the color I wanted (Robin's Egg) was not available in the cotton. As it turns out, a little shine & crushed texture in these pillows may be good for this room. I've ordered swatches from various places online. One that I've recently used and like (for swatches) is Inside Fabrics. For the gray velvet, I ordered the yardage from Fabric Carolina because (at the time) their price was best, no tax, & low ship $. This time, I went with Angel Fabrics. Below, I've posted a link to Duralee for their Velvet info. My gray velvet is from their "Logan" line. The Robin's Egg velvet is from their "Greenport" line. I've not had any swatches or experience with silk velvet, yet. Here is the Robin's Egg (polyester) velvet swatch on top of the gray (cotton) velvet. Both pics are of the same swatch. Depending on the angle, the polyester velvet looks darker or lighter. Here is a link that might be useful: Duralee Velvet

Panda Baby Afghan done using requested colors. The panda is worked from a grid. The bow-tie can be made any color (except white/black or the main color). I've made quite a few of these over the years. I only use the panda panel pattern, then create my own edging each time because I don't care for the printed pattern's edging. For this baby afghan I used popcorns to frame the panel and then added another set as I finished the edging. The finised size is larger than I'd normally make a baby afghan, again by request. The finished size is about 32" x 50". A few close-up below:

I've also been working on Christmas stockings: Snowmen Stocking--Here I used navy yarn with a blue filament for the "sky." The original pattern called for bright blue. I also added button snowflakes that have a shimmer. The snowmen are cluster stitches that pop out, giving dimension. Christmas Tree Stocking--This is my own design. I added button embellishments to add detail. Angel Stocking--Here I used navy yarn for the "sky." I also used a white yarn with silver filament for the wings to give some sparkle. The second photo is a closer shot of the angel. Holly Berry Stocking--I used the traditional Christmas red and green for this one. I still need to tuck the tails. <grin>

I'd love to see the fabric garland. I've spotted lots of cool fall decorating ideas this year!
Hoss is still talking about the potato soup. We had the rest for breakfast the next morning...And oh,man it was even better!
I used salt to set the dye, the tea bath didn't work, I know I didn't have enough tea bags or water for that. Just gonna go with a light tan coloring, or leave it alone. One of Hoss' friends asked if I could do something with some nice cornices and draperies. They're Gold!! So I'm gonna use the drapery material, it's much nicer than linen, and I'll use the linen for something else later. Hoss told him yeah I'd take it and use it, that I could prolly make a '72 Cadillac convertible out of it if I tried hard enough :P""

Sounds great! I'd love to see some photos :D This week I scrounged some rusty bed springs and made a few things from those, and cut up a bunch of neck ties for other things. I have things I'm thinking about making, but I have a very short attention span! LOL

LOL...he does want a baby sister or baby "brudder"...that's how he says it! And he played with those snow men he made all evening, taking care of his "sister" :D But every time I help him make something, when he finishes, he says what can we make now? LOL He may turn into a wonderful, talented artist like a lot of my relatives!
