It would help to have a picture for reference.

Whether or not you see the templated slab is your choice. You decided to leave it up to them based on the call that everything looked good. You may have some options but there are some questions you will need to have answers to.

When they told you not to come in, did they call you or did you call them? Did you note the date and time and who told you not to come in? Did you tell the installers that there was a problem?

You can try calling and complaining, but you will need to be prepared with those answers.

They had originally told me I would need to come and see the slab/layout, so when it got close to the installation date I called to set that up. At that time I was told that there was only one way to do it and it looked great. I trusted them. I never actually saw the slabs at all...went from a showroom sample, and was told that my slabs came from the same lot. I'd attach a pic, but do not know how! This forum is new to me.

I don't know if this will be any consolation, but I encourage you to live with it for a while. I felt EXACTLY the same way about a section of my granite when it was installed. It made me sick to look at it. Over time, I've gotten used to that "ugly" part. In fact, now it doesn't bother me in the least--I see it now as part of the whole, and the whole just keeps growing on me more and more. The more I live with it, the more I love its imperfections. I hope the same will be true for you!

I picked out a quartz reminant for my bath. I didn't see the whole slab and just assumed quartz was very consistent. Well it wasn't. It ended up to have splotches. I was glad it was just my bathroom counter. I think a major rule should be to make sure you see the actual slab, if not before purchase, at least before templating.

What you may not like in your granite, may be something I like, and parts of mine that I had them cut out for the sink, might be your favorite part. It's such an interesting and varied granite that it is a shame that you didn't see your exact slab. My slab looks nothing like the one on the showroom floor where mine is from, and it too was from the same lot. And yes, my fabricator thinks they look alike...well I didn't.

My fabricator told us that with certain levels they don't have the customer come in and participate with the layout of the template, but with the granites that have movement, they invite you in. My fabricator had the perimeter laid out when I got there, I moved it a bit to capture a really cool piece of quartz right at the sink. But then he handed me the template for the island and told me to "go".

I think you will probably come to love your least favorite spot. Try posting a picture, the directions are easy, just follow them step by step.

Chin up, and show us some pictures.

It is possible that what you see as an ugly spot would be a special and unique feature of natural stone to another person. They may have even laid out the template intentionally to capture that spot.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I really thought everyone would tell me I was an idiot. Next time I would absolutely see the exact slab in person. I will try to reform my ways and figure out how to get you all a pic or two. And there are other issues with this kitchen project I need help on... but not tonight. Manana! I'm tired. Thanks again.

Posting a picture from your photo hosting account (e.g., PhotoBucket)

First, where are your pictures? If on your computer only, you'll need to upload them somewhere on the web for the rest of us to see them. I upload pictures to PhotoBucket.

1. Open an account w/PhotoBucket or other photo hosting site.

2. Take a picture using a digital camera (or film camera but get them on disk when they're developed)

3. Resize your pics so they're approx 400x300 (resize keeping the same proportions so they don't get distorted...i.e., don't specify a specific size, use %-ages or similar)

4. Upload your pictures to your photo account

5. Find the label that contains the link to the picture
   (In PhotoBucket, it's the box labeled "HTML Code")

6. Copy that link and paste it into the "Message" box of a post.

7. When you "Preview" your message, you'll see the picture.

1. Copy the following into the "Message" box where you want the picture to be:

Next, replace the http://www.XXX/image.jpg with the address of the image.

thanks for posting. some have the experience and can share, others are following behind, not yet there. this forum is so helpful so thanks for taking the time to educate. i added it to my list to remember when i get there (still working on the design and searching for contractor)
