What to do with large round boxes

that either Oatmeal or Finish automatic dish shop come in. Does anyone have any craft idea's for the holidays to decorate these boxes? Thanks so much.

HIWTHI- Maybe a nutcracker? Could use scrapbook paper to make different sections for legs,chest/arms,head/hat. Or a "Smores" looking marshmallow snowman.Could maybe use paint or decoupage to cover. Just a thought. Good luck,Kim:)

I don't know why, but i've never forgotten the oatmeal box 'purse' my Mom made for me when I was about 5~i'm almost 70 now! Guess some things just stick in your head. Anyway, she made 2 slits in the lid, and one on two sides of the box to line up with the 2 in the lid. She used a shoelace, put it thru the slits in the sides and brought it up to the slits in the lid and tied the ends inside. The lid slid up and down~is this making any sense?LOL She covered it with fabric, and it's one of those things i've never forgotten~~or the crepe paper ballet costume she sewed on the sewing machine.

And I never thought of my Mom as 'crafty'. ;o)

They'll do OK at least for 5 years, probably longer. In 15 gal pots they need replanting every few years. After about 5 years without repotting the vigor drops below what is needed to make good fruit. Your planter is a lot bigger than a 15 gal pot so the trees should last longer. You could get a multigrafted tree which might reduce root crowding. Getting the trees on Citation vs a more vigorous rootstock might help a little as well. What are your favorite cultivars? Mine are (earliest to latest) Flavor Supreme, Geo Pride, Flavor Grenade, Flavor King, Flavor Finale, and Flavor Treat.

Reporting back very late here! So, my eye of rounds had worked their way to the bottom of the freezer. I found one yesterday and this was going to be dinner. I messed it up some. Like Sol, I rub with olive oil, lots of pepper and some salt. I had just taken bread out of the oven at 450 so I put it in like Nancy mentioned and reduced the temp to 325 after 10 minutes or so. Guessing, 45 minutes later it wasn't even up to 110 yet so I thought I had plenty of time to go move the hoses around that were water my newly planted trees. Wrong! Came back in and it was up to 125-130 in less than five maybe 10 minutes. Took it out didn't cover hoping it would cool off and still be on the rare side. Not a total loss but more done than what I like. Not bad would have been much better if I would have kept a closer eye on it and taken it out earlier. Not too tough but way from tender. Oh well, live and learn. I have three half roast left and will try a couple of the other recipes soon. It really didn't give much juice/fat to work with for gravy, I know it's a lean cut, I mananged to make some anyway. Any tips on that. I just added some butter a touch of broth to the pan and moved forward with makeing gravy. Think I'll try Sharon's method next for beef on a bun. I gerneral use rump roast cooked low and slow for this and then shread it. I'll try it with this cut. Are y'all cutting this by hand or using a meat slicer when you say "cut very thin"? I once took the oatmeal box and cut it about in half leaving both ends intact, and you now have a cradle for a small doll or teddy bear. Cover with pretty wall paper etc.. I also just cover the boxes with contact paper and use to store lots of misc. stuff,

I couldn't think of anything when I first saw this and noticed there were answers so checked back. I love the oatmeal box purse! How wonderful of your mom, pattycakes. And she sewed crepe paper on her machine. She was ahead of her time as the scrapbookers started sewing paper too. Perfect for doll cradles too.

You could probably make lanterns if you used the little faux candles inside. they don't get hot.

Round boxes make great drums. Paint and glue rope in the typical zig zag pattern and add trim if desired. You can then use it to set a small Xmas tree on to raise the height. If you have graduated sizes you can stack to form a Xmas tree and make two to flank an entry way of to fill a cubby hole. Spray them gold, and while still wet sprinkle glitter. Glue gun them together and then tie a pretty ribbon(twice) around all with a huge bow on top as the "star".
