I adore the painted dresser.

I found this pic yesterday on a local furniture store website (under their design service). I started looking on Craigslist immediately. Also checked Ebay and Etsy. Am going to have to keep my eyes open when we go antiquing. Hopefully something will turn up.

I have a dresser that I want to paint - it is a smaller dresser with great "pulls" - the kind that have a little piece that hangs down - if you can figure out what I'm talking about by that description!!! Trying to decide what color I want to paint it. Am thinking of trying the chalk paint.

I normally don't like alot of color and pattern, but that room speaks to me,too.

If you can't find a headboard exactly like that, I wonder if it would be possible to find a headboard with a similar shape and do some tweaking. That is, cut out the center and do some caning or painting to resemble cane.

Love the headboard and the room...... when searching on CL, use terms like "cane" and "wicker" -also, search under the front page search box, and that way you can find it, whether it is listed under antiques, household, or furniture. We have CL in two nearby cities here too, about three hours away. When I really want something I search those as well. You can also create your own post, something like, "Looking for a headboard like this..."

I agree that is very pretty. I wonder if it is original or a reproduction? It looks like a king sized bed. I didn't think there were many king beds in the antique/vintage category, but definitely worth a look. What size bed did you want?

How handy are you or somebody that you know w/ a circular saw or something? If so I bet that would be easy to replicate w/ some pre-made stuff from the hardware store!

I've never seen a cane headboard in that shape before so I did a little googling to see if you could get prewoven cane to make one yourself. You can, and they'll cut it to length.

Ttodd - my hubby is very handy with woodworking - I'm sure we could do it. May just take a while to come up with what I like - but no hurry.

This could be a repro since it is shown on a furniture store webpage. Not sure. I have several antique pieces in the room, but I don't care if the bed is old or not. Right now I have a metal headboard. It's not old. I'd probably keep a queen size.

I would be willing to bet you could find a lot of what you'd need to replicate that at a salvage yard for home builders. We have a couple of them in our area and they're loaded with ornate posts and wood pieces that would work perfectly.

I just wonder where you can find the cane from. An upholstery supplies store maybe?

Hmmm, I don't know if we have one of those Lukki. I think when we repaired the chair we ordered the cane from a woodworking supply place. Hubby gets a couple catalogs from those places. I'll have to ask him, I can't remember.

I think I'll look first for a headboard that I can where we could insert cane vs. building the whole headboard. Probably a winter project since we will be busy with alot of outdoor projects come fall.

I'm thinking that link to the $1200.++ bed is the bed. Is it the caning or the shape of the headboard you are after or both? You could or should be able to find a poster type bed/headboard on CL and add your own caning look like suggested, but I was going to say if you don't have to have the see thru look like your inspiration bed, you could find something made out of caning/bamboo...and attached it the bed and then paint it all out.

Ceiling tiles (tin antique style) would look cool too if you liked that look.

Tina, the headboard I showed you is not painted like yours, but it looks the same to me otherwise. I thought you could see how it's constructed on the bottom in case you wanted to attempt making one.

Oooo... I don't usually find myself getting all giddy over those colors in general but I really, really like that whole room. Very pretty! Keep us posted with the project!

I am generally not a fan of caning, but that is spectacular! Good luck! If your DH is handy, I'm sure he could do it. I would try chalk paint.

Thanks for the visual! I have a Matelasse bedspread and was thinking about putting a chocolate bed skirt with it but couldn't find any pics. Now I know for sure I want it!

not to be a downer... but I would be worried about putting a arm or head thought the cane on accident. Or even a kid jumping on the bed and pushing the pillows though.

Maybe you don't move around alot but you may want to think about putting the caning starting above where you head would rest. Just a thought :) GOOD LUCK!

LOL ava! The cane is stronger than that. We have some chairs with cane seats and we sit on them! And, we don't have children, so no worries there. Thanks for your good thoughts though!!

I googled 'headboard caned inset' and got several hits in various finishes (including a striped version!). It's made by guildmaster.
