Update.... Stepson playing games again!

Well, last week we got the "I'll be out the end of the month" speech AGAIN! He spoke to the leasing consultant to the apartment complex who told him the apartment would be available between May 19th and the 25th. They were waiting to get the keys back from the former tenants so they could get in and clean the place. Last night we got a different story. He can't get the apartment until June 8th because the tenants lease isn't up until the 31st of May. So we ask " Why did she tell you they were waiting for keys last week if their lease isn't up until the 31st ?" His reply.. "I don't know" Then he was asked if he even filled out an application. His reply.... " I didn't know I had to fill out one to reserve an apartment, they never told me that when I went there." My reply... "Sure they didn't, leasing agents always forget to tell you that. Ha Ha! This has been going on for 2 and a half years with this 24 year old. The lies never end. I had enough last night, my husband and I wound up arguing and I left for a few hours just to calm down and avoid saying anything I might regret.

My husband talked to him after I left and told him he felt that we were being lied to and he wouldn't tolerate it. This morning stepson went and supposedly filled out an application there to reserve an apartment for June 8th. Am I wasting my time getting my hopes up that he is finally going to move out?

I'd say yes he is telling you what you want to hear....

Did you know how much rent will be? if so say ok if you are not out by june 8th I will expect "my rent in full for the next month" same amount he would be paying elsewhere. And it will be due on the 8th of every month. Tenant at will ..no rent = get out.

I like your thinking cawfecup! The rent is $750 a month.
We could start paying off a few things around here with the extra income we'd be getting. Thanks for your reply!

Sherry, beautiful photos of a wonderful assortment of butterflies. You are so blessed to have the land and the environment to provide so much diversity of plant life for the little creatures. Since you mentioned the constraints of the software that came with your new camera, there is free photo editing software called Picasa 3 by google that is very good for basic editing, cropping and easy uploading. It allows you at least a gig of free web album space and provides the code to use to insert photos into the Gardenweb forums. This is what I use for much of my editing, cropping and uploading for use on-line. You might want to take a look at it since it's 'free'. No cost to evaluate and keep, if it meets your needs. Here's a link to my Picasa garden web album, that I've been adding to for a couple of years. Nothing special here but when I want to share a photo with a friend or insert code for a photo into a forum message, it's really quick and simple to do. This will give you an idea of how the photos present on-line. The nice thing is, as long as I leave the photo in the album, it will always display, no matter how old the forum message gets to be. With all of these photos, I've only used a small fraction of my free web album space. Hi all, I'm behind again. I've got 2 days worth of cards to list. From foreverrecyclereuse I received round cantaulope,Broccoli and Grand Rapids lettuce. jas.il sent poppies, chives and Buttercrunch lettuce. Panhandle_seed_swap sent a huge package of foxgloves, I would love to plant each one of them. Tularosa Market melon. Dirt Daddy sent a mother lode. There's moneymaker tomato, White lisbon onion, marigold mix, lettuce mix, Super beefsteak tomato, evergreen long white bunching onion, gourmet blend lettuce, bibb lettuce, Aunt Gertie's gold tomato, German Johnson tomato, Abe Lincoln tomato, and Rutgers tomato. Nikkineel sent a wonderful card with a snowman. I received Castor beans, echinacea cheyenne spirit, Cannibals tomato and zinnia swirls. jhgarden9 sent marigolds, Korean melon, and cucumbers. smitties sent sea holly and sombrero echinacia. and last but not least, roper 2008 sent red barn tomato, pink poppy and red and yellow speckled marigold. This is such a wonderful swap! Wonderful cards with warm holiday greetings and seeds for the new year! I can't believe it, but I received even more cards! You are all sooooo generous! From Margirta10 came a lovely snowman card with a snowman angel and "BELIEVE" on the front. Wonderful sentiment for this time of year! Inside were packets of Giant California mixed zinnias, white phlox, Pastel Carpet mixed alyssum and Tall Deluxe mixed snapdragons. Thanks so much - I love them all! A Happy Holiday stocking card came from Melinda/ilovefarac with one of my all time favorites --Hyacinth beans. woohoo! Thanks, Melinda! Karendee sent a hilarious card. Santa is standing with a shopping cart full of flowers and long shopping list. On the front it reads, "Seeds 'n Greetings!" Inside were another one of my favorites - mixed larkspur! Thanks, Karen! Funny larkspur story -- maybe some of you have had this happen to you... The first time the larkspur reseeded, it went outside the flower beds and into the yard a few feet from the original beds. Some of them were in such numbers that I went out and surrounded it with bricks so my DH wouldn't mow it down. I told him I was going to expand the flower beds - and that's what I did. I would think he'd have to an idiot to lie AGAIN giving such a definitive date this time (though I find it odd that a lease would start on the 8th of each month), but I guess, w/ his history, you can't put anything past him. Can you call the apt. complex/leasing co. and verify that everything's in line for him to take the apt. on 6/8?

If you just boxed his stuff and changed the locks, would it end in a divorce for you and DH? I guess you'll know something if he starts putting his belongings in boxes. Maybe bring home a few boxes and hand them to him and see how he reacts?

Thanks for your reply Dana! Things are looking up since I last posted. My husband brought home boxes for his son to start packing, which he has started doing. I did a little investigating of my own. I checked the apartments website and found that there were apartments available for 6/8, which is where he probably got the date from. The other day when stepson left for work, I checked his room and found the filled out application, and 2 check receipts for checks written out to the apartment complex. I hated to snoop, but felt I had a right to know what was going on considering his track record. It looks like he is moving out on 6/8. He asked if my husband would be available to help him that day since my husband has a pickup truck. He also asked his older brother and a friend to help him. His brother confirmed that to my husband. Things are looking good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck. I wouldnt mention snooping to anyone. I forget how old are your kids and skids are -- but I would make certain that on move out day you have whatever babysitters etc so dh can help with move. Even if all SS asked for was truck, cant hurt to have another one. Even if Dh is too old to lift, he can help with watching truck (making certain nothing stolen on move, making certain no tickets) etc. June 8th is a Friday, so good move day. You might tell DH to have SS drop off application and checks now, and arrange to get keys. Especially important if they wont actully move in till Saturday and the office may not be open, they should start figuring out now how they will get keys. Also, start getting utilities set up. This is good, with Dad and brother helping, but make certain someone has logistics covered.
