To hotel - without hurting feelings

Hi all. Hoping you can come up with a good way to approach this.

My sister just had her first baby....a boy.. healthy, but a complicated delivery. She lives in a different state than me and both of my parents. My mother drove in and stayed with her for a week while she recovered. Of course, she did all the motherly things as well as cooked and cleaned. My father is going out there next weekend to visit and see the new baby. The problem is, he is not going to play a "motherly" role. He isn't a total sexist, but his "helping" in the kitchen or around the house generally leads to more work for the person being help. He is well meaning, but he is more of guest in the home than a contributor. The bottom line is, my sister would rather he had a hotel room and visited in the day than stay with them constantly. I (and my sister) know that he will take it the wrong way if she suggests it in any straightforward fashion. Any suggestions on how a third party (me) could bring this up without making my dad feel like an unwanted visitor or a burden?
