Oh ohow great...I seen a small one at a YS this weekend. I'd love to had it, but they wanted 15.00 and I only had 10 and might of been able to get it for that, but the size said maybe 8 and I don't know if they'd of took that...So congrats on a great find and can't wait to see it red...

Yes, I agree with you Palimpest and Lazygardens about it being more 1920's/30's than Biedermeir. Lazygardens, now that you mention it...yes, I can definitely imagine a champagne breakfast (in a 1930's penthouse) being eaten on it. LOL The first thing I noticed driving past it( at 30 mph) on the opposite side of the road were the legs. They do have a very striking silhouette. I think it's a crime to throw out vintage furniture or anything vintage for that matter. They're like works of art to me. They have history and someone most likely had made it with their own two hands. I have been known to carry home large and heavy leaded glass windows, trunks, chairs, mirrors etc. I "ain't proud".I'll pick up your "trash" LOL

I did buy it--it seemed like a decent and interesting, sturdy dresser at a quite reasonable price. The drawers are made out of wood w/wicker fronts; I was expecting the dresser to be kind of rickety but it's decently solid. The drawers operate very smoothly and, from what I can tell, it's in excellent condition with NO odors. The sellers lived in a very nice neighborhood and had a beautiful home. Here's the thing (and I may start a new thread about this): it totally looks like something you'd see in a little girls room, and that's where it used to be. This morning I realized what attracted me to that dresser is that there is a subtle similarity between it and the dresser I had growing up (which my parents still have). My old dresser was not well-built or wicker, but the overall shape was similar. My mom always called it "cheap French Provincial". I digress. I think the carved, curvy bottom parts of the dresser can be removed to help it look more "adult". I haven't decided if I'm going to remove the handles or not, they're attached securely and I'm not exactly sure how. If I keep the handles I'll paint them black. The handles are interesting wooden cups w/carving on them, very pretty, but I think metal handles would look more mature. Maybe I can find a metal-looking paint? I still want to paint it the deep, muted red. Perhaps it will look more mature that way. The top is also wicker, probably over wood, and the edges have sort of large waves. There is a Pier 1 Imports label on the back that says "Jamaica collection". I need to take and post a more detailed photo b/c the dresser is actually quite ornate--the CL photo did not capture the detail. As I mentioned earlier, it's not my usual taste at all. This morning when I realized it reminded me of MY old dresser, I had some doubts about how it would look in our LR. Even so, I'm going to look for primer and paint tomorrow. DH has a sprayer (as mentioned by johnmari), so maybe I can paint it during a clear weather week and start using it soon!

When I do I will let you know;) Palimpsest-Thank you for your article about the "watertown slides" very interesting. Yes, I agree with you about it being more art deco-y than bediermier-esque( I googled some examples). There are some similarties such as the tapered legs. I think 1920's or 1930's is more like it just from the images I googled.
