We would like to go for Thanksgiving but unsure whats there.

It is a little town with a lot of shops, and restaurants. There are a few hotels, cabins, and Unicoi Park, which also has lodging. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn in town, and at rented cabins.

Thanksgiving, the leaves will be past prime, but it is still a nice destination.

Best Reuben in town is a little restaurant that overlooks the Chattahoochee river. Has outdoor seating, think it's called the International Cafe, or something like that. Melts in your mouth.

There are also fudge shops with delicious candy and fudge!

I was in Helen about 5 years ago with my family and it is a very quaint town. It is in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. They have set up the town to resemble a village in the Swiss Alps. You can pan for gold, shop, hike. We had a very nice weekend visit and I hope you enjoy it as well. There is alot to do and see enjoy!

I just collected a whole bunch from my plants. The fuzzy part of the spent blossom falls off and eventually a little opening shows in the pod underneath. It looks like a tiny little cup. I pick the cup and turn it over onto a plate and all the seeds come tumbling out. I leave some of the seeds on the original plant so that it seeds over too. Diahthus pruduces a lot of seeds!

Hey Orchiddude, I agree thanks so much for the info. I have a few questions if you don't mind. I recently bought a small 6x8 GH & plan on using Natural Gas to heat it this winter. I have been looking at the Blue Flame heaters (199.00 at Lowe's) and have heard they are better than the infrared. Any thoughts?? I want to use NG over electric given that in the past few years I have gone thru 2 ice storms that have left me without electricity for several days. I also plan on putting the Gh right next to my house so that I can easily tap into the gas line right under my living room. Have a line that is capped off where a heater used to come thru the floor. Should be easy to ell over and come outside. I know that I will have plenty of plant materail to fill it up already...brought everything in with our first little cold snap and was overflowing on a 12x9 dropcloth...and of course love the idea of having to add more plants..haha I guess my only question again was with regard to Blue flame verses infrared, since it seemed you linked to one of each. I looked at the Trimmer again and found the real model I think: Model CT M 32 EM Does that sound right? It's a 32cc, not a 28cc. Does anyone know more about this trimmer? I tried searching but didn't find out much. Thanks

Here's what I did for my water heater flush valve. I took out the original multiturn valve and replaced it with a ball valve that has a simple handle held on by a single screw. I took the screw out and put the handle and screw in a plastic bag taped to the side of the water heater. This prevents kids (and adults) from accidentally opening the valve but still allows for easy access. Most ball valves have a simple handle like that so the "conventional ball valve" you mentioned probably has that already. Then the caretaker can just take the handle after turning off the gas and bring it back to turn it back on. It doesn't even need to be screwed back in to do a simple single turn so it's almost like a key. No need for any special "lock-out" device. Good luck.

We go to Blairsville ofetn it is about 30 miles from Helen. Great hicking, shopping close by. If you like to flea market ther is one right outside of town also a good one in Murphy N.C. open on Sat and Sun go early. There is some good trout fishing try booking a trip with one of the local guides. Weather will be a little cool at night.

We are interested in going to Helen also and I did a search for Helen and got lots of information as well as requested brochures. This would probably be your best bet - I think one of the sites was the chamber of commerce - always a good source for local information! Enjoy - Vicki/FL
