A question for the color experts ...

My daughter wants to paint her front door green, but doesn't want anything that resembles sage, hunter, etc. She loves greens that have more yellow in them. Has anyone seem a front door painted in a more Lime green that wouldn't look sick and make the neighbors mad? We know that yellow greens can be hard outside. It is a small brick house, the roof is gray, trim is white. The front door is wood, with small windows at the top, and is covered by the front porch. It faces East. She tends to like the arty and eclectic, but also loves Jadeite and retro. Any suggestions appreciated!

I would not hesitate to spend the money on samples of BenM's Wasabi AF-430 and Anjou Pear AF-245 for a front door. On the right house even in the more traditional neighborhoods, I would use either color on a front door. Not color crazy pants at all, IMHO. Whatever color, just make sure it's an exterior color.

I've tweaked colors, and even had to mix a bit of a color to match to finish a wall so I didn't have to buy another gallon. If you have some knowledge in terms of working with colors, you can make something lighter, darker, cancel some of the undertones, etc., but only to a limited degree without winding up with a lot more paint. The automated tinting systems will not, to the best of my knowledge, take any starting color other than their base formulas into account. You can manually look at the formulas and get some help in figuring out which way to go, but understand that even two colors next to each other on the same strip may not have the same pigmentation in varying amounts as you might expect. There may be some translation involved. It is a manual process that requires patience (going a tiny bit at a time is better than ever adding too much) and the thrill of a challenge. And a willingness to know when you just can't get there from here and adapt, save it for another room or donate and start over.

Alright kids, I took some pictures of this space. The more I think about it, I think doing a wow color is going to be too much for me. I think if I didn't have to do above the tub, it might work...take a look at the photos. I'm looking through old paint swatches, and I'm wondering would Weimeramer be too dark with the dark floor, maybe Natural Cream would work, a little bit of contrast with the tub and the woodwork.... Look at the photos, not the best, but hey, what do you expect with a camera phone? View from doorway, looking in mirror you can see the tub side of shower opposite shower head from that spot looking towards the door from where the toilet will be, between vanity and window and this is The Tree From the top, (these are taped onto the tub wall, so you can see the contrast) They are: Natural Cream Weimaramer Wales Green Hibiscus My tile will be this one on the left it is 6x24 Top chip is Natural Cream, showing it against Cloud White Showing the Fab 4 with the floor tile in the photo ------ So, I looked at the Preview, the photos are not that great at all. Not sure if the colors are represented all that well. The Weimeramer isn't that dark, it will look ok with the dark cabinets and the floor, not sure though if the whole room would have a "dark vibe" though. I will look at the greens suggested earlier in this thread tomorrow. I gotta get ready to go to dinner. Takin' me Aussie student out for her last night here!

I had tan/warm in my last house - which I liked. The colors that I used with it were greens, purple, golds. But, at that house I was decorating in a very tradional manner. I think you should stop in and pick up some paint booklets they always show groups of colors that go together. I have a decorating book from Lowe's, if I remember right if tan was the main color the rest were earthy muted shades, browns, light brownish tourquise, and greens.

I did some phone chasing (Cambria website dealer info led me to a Cambria dealer who referred me to the Cambria dealer's fabricator! Geez - it was like pre-internet research lol) and this is what I've learned so far: - it's silicon (which is what my guy used, so we're good on that front). - Cambria doesn't have purpose-matched stuff that they knew about and their fabricators generally use clear or, if necesary, mix their own. - Silestone's product is the same composition (ie silicon), just premixed - the existing silicon can be dug out a little to leave room for new stuff and, as I hoped, a bead of closer match stuff can be run across the seam without any problem. He suggested masking tape on either side of the seam to prevent any possible staining from oozing, and also to keep it tidy. I'm still interested in some of our resident experts' suggestions/advice on this, but this sounds like a plan for the time being. I can take my stone sample up to Lowes, find the closest match in Silestone and then order some of the stuff you found on e-counters. A $5 would be great! I love the idea. One of my neighbors has a lime green door and it looks great. They have a nice porch (our houses are around 100 years old) with two lime green chairs out front. Love it!

If she's a fan of Jadeite then she'd love a mint green door. Me too, it's my favorite green. I find it soothing to look at and it's not in your face as other bright greens are.

Thanks for all your suggestions! We are checking them out. She really likes more of a lime look, so some of these might work. Any more ideas? We have Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, PPG Porter Paints, and Lowe's and Home Depot with all they offer. She has bought some samples.

Can you post a picture of her house, so we can see the brick color? It may help people suggest more colors.

Thanks everyone. Keep the suggestions flowing! I will try to see if she can post a picture. This is their first house and it needs help with curb appeal too. Now they are concentrating on floors, walls, appliances, sinks, tubs, etc. I am so excited for them! She is really working on a shoestring budget.
