We have a deck that looks bad, boards are splitting and we can't afford to replace right now.

I was looking a maybe painting a floor cloth for it. Anyone here done anything with an old deck.

We were told maybe flipping the boards but that's not an option right now. Just need a quick(sortof) for the rest of the summer.

TIA for any suggestions

You don't say if it is covered or not. How large is it? Maybe some 6 ft wide or 12 ft wide outside carpet would "fill in the main section"of it so kids wouldn't get slivers in their feet! I don't know what it cost now but would be less trouble than painting up a canvas floor cloth unless you are an excellent painter! If you are maybe you could later use it as shade at 1 side so you could still see the pattern & enjoy your creative work of art! JAN

It's not covered and faces south! We're thinking of maybe flipping the boards. We willl see. Thanks for your suggestion.

We just gave up the fight with Midwest Manufacturing/Menards to honor the warranty on our 6-year-old deck. We had boards shrinking, fasteners breaking loose and boards coming loose, and someone actually broke through a board. When we filed the claim and sent pictures, the answer, of course, was that the warranty was invalid because due to improper installation. Apparently, they could tell this by a few pictures, without inspecting the deck. When we pushed back and asked them to explain the shrinkage or, if the deck wasn't installed properly, why we weren't having issues with the covered part of the deck (only the part exposed to elements), they had not answer. The just kept saying the warranty is invalid. I wish I had seen these comments before we installed the deck (on our new house) 6 years ago. I hope others find these before buying. I'm doing all I can to spread the word that this is not a good product, and that Midwest Manufacturing/Menards does not value their customer.

Have you thought about checking out Freecycle or Craigslist for free plywood? You could screw it into the existing decking and wouldn't need very big pieces. I wonder if there'd be a way to use wood from skids, usually plenty of those to be had for free.
