Trash To Treasure

My children would have disowned me!

On my way back to the office today, in business attire..... saw an interesting pile of STUFF being moved out to the curb! Any way this family bought a house with its entire contents and were cleaning it out. I got a great old wooden ladder to try my hand at a craft/garden project.

No cost and met some new friends.....

However had my children been with me, I would no longer be Mom in public.....

So for them it would have been a case of, "Who is that woman driving us around?... Oh, pay no attention to her. She's just, um, the nanny. Yeah, the nanny! She has, er, kleptomania, so she feels compelled to to drive around and take other people's trash... No relation to us at all."

I hope the ladder works out wonderfully for you. Having just recently kidnapped myself a roadside chair before work myself, I totally understand how it goes!

Is there a Bee group in your area? Mine established their own bee library for the use of the members. One of their books is "Beekeeping for Dummies." Some of these posts have information on hives but may be several pages back by now.

Thanks, Ken, for taking the time to post the chronicle of this tree's life. It is a beauty! And you've picked up some amazing colors in your photos. I fell in love with your tree when you posted a pic of it before, maybe the 8/29/06 photo. It just has some quality that really catches the eye -- I always think of it as "fluffy". I was finally able to find one a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorites in our garden. Thanks for the inspiration! Kim

Cover all the areas you use for walking with padding topped with carpeting. Such a remedy could be a peaceful solution to your noice problems. Don't forget that the noise is generated by you, and therefore, it would be in your own best interest to find a way to abate the noise. Like yourself, your neighbor would like peaceful enjoyment of her apartment. Floors' creaking can be eliminated by a skilled carpenter and would be your landlord's responsibility. You and your neighbor could together make requests to your landlord to have the creaking-floor problem eliminated. The landlord has to provide peaceful habitation for all. Never lodge false accusations or complaints about anybody! If you do, you open yourself to all kinds of repercussions, like eviction, lawsuits, and landlords unwilling to rent to you again, because you've become a high-risk tenant.

Mercy, have you got a lot on your plate! I admire your cheerfulness & perseverence. I think people have a wrong impression about "mental illness"; they think someone who has a brain disorder acts crazy, when really they usually act like anyone else, & their symptoms often do not include "acting crazy". As you say, bi-polar people can be fractious, argumentative, & unreasonable....& that sounds like a lot of other people as well. I think I might work on that part of the problem first. If he can realize that your daughter really does have a disorder, that she's not just being difficult or using her problems as a crutch, he can calm down & develop more reasonable expectations of her. & I think you're going to *have* to inhale, exhale, take a step backwards, & look after yourself. No one person can solve everyone else's problems, & if you kill yourself from the stress of trying, those grandchildren never *will* get to know & enjoy their grandmother. As far as your hubs's mother rejecting him... That would hurt anyone. but if he can look at the situation from the perspective of his adult self, he'll realize that she couldn't have been a good mother to him then (that's the reason he was adopted), & she still can't be a mother to him. She just doesn't have it. I'd say if he was brought up to be a good person & a responsible adult, & if he's found some uncles who adore him, he's a lucky person indeed. Take care.

Congratulations on the old ladder! But I'm afraid I'd have filled my car with stuff if they were hauling out a bunch.
LOL And like yours, my kids would be totally embarrassed.

My DS will go to any garage sale, but if I slow down on a street to look at curbside treasures, he just cringes and says no way, Mom!!! LOL

Ah, Deedlesmom, just wait until he is in or graduates college-- he'll feel differently about the dumpster diving. It'll be, "Hey, Mom, I found this cool thing somebody was throwing out!"

I know this has been here a while, but just had to answer--
My Daughter used to hide in the floorboard of the car
when I would stop to 'curbshop'. Now she is in her 40's and has curbshopped, and
dumpster dived for several years
herself, and her Hubby does too! LOLOL
Amazing how things change, isn't it?!!!!

Usually only lurk here but love T2T.

My experience has been the same with kids and T2T. When my daughter was a teen it would be Mooooommmmm, if she was with me when I wanted to look in the Thrift Shop. She didn't want to be seen even sitting in the car in front of the store and would have rather done anything else than enter the doors. About 10 years later she's the one that got me yard saling which has become somewhat of an addiction! But so fun.

DH refuses to pull over if I spot curbside treasure, I now drive everywhere we go (he caught onto why though) My 8yr old DS keeps his eyes peeled pretty well and 2yr old DD yells "GO,GO,GO" when I get back in the car. (it's so much easier to curbshop without a car full of family, sigh.)

My kids will just yell NO if they see me looking at anything curbside. Gee sometimes I wasnt even considering stopping.....

Drop them off at home and come back by yourself.
