Has anyone tried Miari sweetcorn?
Comments (7)I got a 1000 seeds of Miari 301 for about $10 shipped. That has lasted 9 plantings of about three rows by 20ft. My first planting was in March and the 9th will be next Tu. During the summer the plantings have been spaced 2 wks apart and the corn has matured in about 66 days. It is listed at 76. There are about 30 varieties of Miari; white, yellow, and bicolor like 301. I choose 301 because it is later, larger, and it might have some stress tolerance. I do think it could be planted with Vision since they have similar genetics. The Fruitnut...See MoreHas anyone tried an A./C in their GH during the summer?
Comments (34)Hi I'm in Palm Beach county the northern limit of 10. greenhouser Afaid so lol. The only frost proof place is Key West. Doesn't do it every year and have only experienced one hard freeze .27 for four hours though it got to 22 by the lake. We once had a snow, 77/78 as I recall. What a sight that was lol. Has never done it again . Since I'm so close to the gulf stream I'm usually about 5/ 8 degrees above the inland parts of the county Last year the low was 37 while 42 the year before. Cold fronts usually last 3 days with each night progessively warmer. The coldest daytime I remember was 53. It's kind of interesting as in order to frost the cold air must come straight down the peninsula and it must be dead calm. and perfectly clear. Other wise the warm ocean raises the temps.as well as cloud cover prevents radiation. So the next day is always brilliant sunshine with an incredible rise in ground temps while the air can stay cool. My first attempt at heating the GH was using sheet plastic. Worked beautifully during the night with a low of 30. I went to work before dawn and was so thrilled the GH was toasty 60 lol When I came home it was 140 degrees inside while outside was 62 lol. I lost everything lol. My new system will work !! gary...See MoreHas anyone tried this for the moisture lovers?
Comments (10)That Fafard is what 'Cowboyflowerman' (Jodi) on ebay uses also, and since I really liked it in the plants he sent, I called around trying to get it, but it is mainly only sold in states other than mine, so I gave up as shipping would be ridiculous for DIRT. Ha. I get soooo mad trying to find soils without all the added fertilizers and water retainers they put in them now. Even my old standbuy "Supersoil" is now putting crap in their mix. You would think they would at least keep and offer ONE variety with nothing added. As far as pebble trays go, you can also get some of that white plastic 'grid' stuff from Home Depot and cut it into the size you need. It holds the plants up and still allows circulation underneath them wihout the mess and weight oh stones. I still leave my bellas sitting in some water in their sauser, but I wait until it has been gone a day or two before I water them again. Comments (39)We used a garlic oil/citrus oil mix that was proprietary to Terminix for 3 years, it worked fantastic. It was applied to the trees/planting beds around the perimeter of our yard. Reportedly the citrus attracts mosquitoes, once ingested the garlic destroys their digestive system. Initially it took several weeks to really notice a difference but once it took effect, this stuff worked outstanding. We live in a heavily wooded lot with a small stream that tends to leave pockets of standing water here and there, as well as about 100 yards from a very large lake. It worked great and had no adverse effects on my dog. For whatever reason, Terminix discontinued it in favor of the "traditional" toxic chemical Deltamethrin, which is supposed to work much more effectively and much faster. We've had 2 applications this month so far and the mosquitoes are as bad as we've seen since before we hired Terminix the first time. I'm going to give it another month and if I do t see a reduction in activity, we're going to terminate Terminix in favor of a garlic oil......See Morefergust
