My old Pink Peace and Candy Stripe were Week's bare roots I bought back in the mid 1980s. The "good old days", when there were nurseries all over the Los Angeles area who still sold them BARE in boxes of saw dust. Week's even produced Radiance budded and bare root in those days. Other than rust and an occasional bout of mildew, they were beautiful roses. If you like stripes, also take a look at Banner, the striped sport of Charlotte Armstrong. Like a huge striped Camellia with prickles and Charlotte's mildew. Modern Times is the striped sport of Better Times, a famous old florist rose out of Columbia. If you can find Red and White Glory or Candy Stick, they are identical to Modern Times. Columbia sported to Briarcliff, named for the greenhouses who introduced it. Briarcliff sported further to Better Times, named in hopes that the more marketable color would lead to better times. When Better Times sported to stripes, they named it in honor of Charlie Chaplin's movie, "Modern Times". Red and White Glory/Candy Stick also sported from Better Times, only decades later for J. Thanks guys! I wanted to transplant this weekend but had other home stuff to do...definitely next weekend though! And hopefully the overnight temps start to moderate a bit. Desertdance...I bought a bunch of cuttings from a member here and wasn't expecting as much rooting success as I had. I probably figured maybe 50% success but I achieved more like 80%. And I've been bugging my dad for some of his cuttings from his tree from his home town in Abruzzi and he finally got me some. This tree produces incredible white figs, probably the best I've had. The particular tree he got the cuttings from goes unprotected every winter and still produces :)

A wonderful job! Your 'before' photos show a tub that looks a lot like ours - but ours was an icky green! It may not be the same, as this one is reasonably deep. But it has a straight back which is very uncomfortable when trying to soak. I really envy you your deep new tub. We couldn't afford to take ours out due to flooring issues. So we just had it repainted instead. The old green monster: Much better in neutral beige! I can't get over those blue carpet tiles on the wall. I had to get my DH to come over and look at such an amazing (and appalling) sight! I thought our original bathroom was ugly - the POs had a bright pink fluffy toilet seat cover in a green and yellow bathroom!? - but I think yours has beaten ours for the 'most awful decorating', hands-down...... Congrats again on doing such a great job. I'm impressed with your DIY skills!

In my neighborhood, it's a wreath on the door, some houses have wreaths hanging from all the front windows (I have them on the 3 front-facing 1st floor windows), some have roping over porch or wound around columns, and several have candle lights in each window (I do the same on front and sides - not on back). NO ONE has the roof line outlined in lights, nor are their any blow-up things in the yards. It's all very festive and pretty and quite tasteful. One can see a lite Christmas tree in a window of virtually every house. In one subdivision I drive by on my way to my vet's office, there is a house that is about as tarted up as the above pictures. It must take them weeks to put it all up and take it down, and their electric bill must soar. Oh - the lights flash as well. Glad I don't live across the street - all those lights and all that flashing would drive me nuts!
