New kitchen starting to come together

Haven't posted here very often but I just wanted to share my new kitchen as it comes together in the last few weeks of our build. Definitely want to thank everyone here as I have read numerous posts and gotten many ideas that I have incorporated into my dream kitchen! Never though I would want white kitchen cabinets until I stumbled upon GW. Counter height window - what is that? I have one now and let me tell you everyone kept telling me I needed to re-frame the window it was too low, even my dad/GC didn't quite get it. But they do now! Drawers - we got lots of them and I love them even though I haven't even used them yet. Thought I wanted a viking rangetop, then a bluestar, but was turned on to the Culinarian thanks to GW and I can't wait to fire it up. Anyway, here are some detail and some pics.

Cabinets - White shaker, local cabinet maker that did all of our cabinets for less than the cost of the kitchen quote from the big box stores.

Perimeter countertops - Nordic Black Antiqued

Island countertops - Vermont white (i think it is super white but just a different name)

Ovens - Bosch 800 series double ovens

Dishwasher - Bosch 800 series panel ready

Here are some pics! Not finished yet but I just couldn't wait.

Here is a pic of some closet cabinets we had made.

These are mostly cell phone pics so I will post some better ones soon.

Lovely! Congratulations. That Vermont White or Superwhite on the island is fantastic. The dark floors are really sharp too! Look forward to more pictures of the finished kitchen!!! Cheers!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Normally, we don't recommend "package deals" here in GW~~but~~if I were to recommend one, it would be what you chose, with the exception of the steam oven, (I love my Elux Speed oven and can't fathom life without it!) Now why am I going along with your package deal? First, we've seen a lotta positive posts about the Thermador Freedom columns (except when they first came out). Second, we see a lot of positive posts about the Thermador induction cooktops~~alto to be truthful, just about any induction cooktop tends to get positive reviews. Not that familiar with the Thermador ovens, so I'll just pass on that one. Dishwasher, How can you beat the price? I would not worry about how you ":arrange" the freedom columns, go for what you both like. They are not likely to take a "fatal dump" in the near forseable future, and even if they did~~just replace it, or worse case something is a slightly different size~~~~a good cabinet maker can solve that problem for ya! We have the built in Jenn-air 48" fridge, for over 7 years now, trouble free, love it!!~~~~but had I known about those columns back in 2006, they might be sitting in my kitchen rather than the 48" JA. Regarding color, I've been painting more and had my Mom and the decorator over yesterday staring at my colors. We all agreed that the ones we thought would work were washed out and didn't seem yellow enough in my kitchen. We we went through another 12-15 large swatches- trying for nothing too peachy nor too mustard-y! Keeping in mind that the same color looks different 3' away from each other... and these pics were taken at night. During the day with natural sunlight the colors aren't as saturated... The left drawer AND door are still Hawthorne Yellow. The right drawer is Little Angel 318 and below that is SW Solaria which is NOT an option. I'm really liking Little Angel but need to look at it for a few days in various lighting. (The big swatch painted on the bottom left is also Little Angel) Here is Hawthorne Yellow (left) and Little Angel (right) in all pics... With Mascarpone in the middle-- a yellow based white... This one is reverse Hawthorne (right) Little Angel (left) What do you think? (knowing that online colors are difficult...)

Ontarionmom (et al) - here's a link to the Kitchen forum discussion. I really like Mags's suggestion of going to a good lighting store in my city to see if they'll do a lighting layout (for a fee.) It's nice seeing these alternate layout ideas. Thanks! It gets my mind thinking in a different way. To answer some of buehl's questions: - Appliance sizes will be 36" wide fridge and 24" wide dishwasher (changed since my picture, both very recent and will be staying) - The heat register by peninsula can be moved. No problem there. - The way family and friends come in is through mudroom. Mudroom has an entrance from exterior and from the garage also, so the groceries come in through here and are put on the table. It's very handy because it's close to the built-in pantry, upright freezer, and the fridge while I'm putting things away. We will be tearing out the ceiling (office tile ceiling in two areas, damaged sheetrock ceiling in another) so when that is torn apart the thing we would be willing to change is to put a partial wall of some sort over in that stair area if it made something more functional, but not completely block any stairs. Although the room upstairs is currently used as a bedroom, in a few years when my daughter is done with college and moves out, it will be back to a living room which will be nice to have easy access from the kitchen. It's a long way around going another way (the house is big). It's also the shortest route to the 2nd bathroom from the kitchen. - Window over the sink is 39" off ground and the other two are 23-1/2" - I will have DH make a sketch of main floor layout so it's somewhat in the right proportions compared to what I would come up with.

Thanks for all the kind words! It is kind of surreal to see it come together after so many coutnless hours of time and thought being put in to it!

The floors are prefinished bamboo from home depot! The finish was called walnut i believe the brand was home legends.

The cabinet hardware is Amerock Mulholland 160 mm pulls. Those are one thing i picked before we started building and stuck with. I love them.

The wall color is amazingly different in different lights. (Or was painted en route?) What is it?

I can see why you can't wait to unveil your creation. It is beautiful! Every area draws you in with soothing detail.

Looks like you're well on your way to a beee-u-tee-fulll kitchen! Love your island and perimeter stones! What range hood is that? It looks like a serious hood with lots of sucking power--and I love the look! What rangetop are you getting? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I've been obsessing on this for our reno the last couple of weeks.

Can't wait to see what another week of progress will bring!

You have every right to be excited and want to share, and I'm glad you did.... And that's how I felt before I even got to the pictures of your stone choices. The countertops are breathtaking! Can't wait to see the whole thing finished.

Sorry about the double post earlier!

waterdamage - it is all the same color except the pic of the master closet cabinet. And yes it does look different in different lights but I think the pics make it more so. Could the white balance on my phone though too. The color is Benjamin Moore Grey Mist.

flwrs - the hood is a Broan 48 inch. I forgot the model number. It is paired to a external 1200 cfm blower. The rangetop is Capital Culinarian.

As you can see in the upcoming pics the cabinet guy is going to have to make some kind of filler below the rangetop. Capital's spec sheet wasn't clear about the rangetop having a side lip that the granite goes under, just showed the back lip. So rangetop is sitting 1 1/2 inches off of cabinet and is supported by granite on three sides. Also, just want to add that I got my Capital from Trevor at Eurostoves. Was a very pleasant experience. They sent the wrong one the first time, had a grill instead of griddle. Trevor was very appologetic and quickly remedied the problem. He had a new one sent from the factory and they picked up the wrong one. I didn't have to lift a finger and it arrived on time just like he promised.

I haven't decided on a backsplash yet. I am thinking aout doing a honed carrar subway and maybe putting a framed area of herring bone carrara behind the range. Please let me know what you think and if anyone has any carrara backsplash pics I would love to see them.

How are those wide drawers under the CC? What do you have in them or plan to have in them?

Right now there is just sawdust! Plan to put my pots and pans in them. No big stockpots just everyday use stuff. They arent full depth do to the gas line going to the rangetop. I think maybe 15 or 16 inches deep. They are 1/2 inch plywood bottoms and 100 lb drawer slide so i hope they hold up.
