I strongly urge that you do not buy Proline. I recently purchased a Proline insert for my custom hood. I had the hood built around the specs for the Proline insert. I researched liners and was intrigued by videos put out by Proline. I actually called the company to get more information on a liner. After speaking with a Proline rep they convinced me that this would be a good liner. I was concerned about the low price, but the rep assured me that was a promotional price, and they wanted to get reviews on the product. My review: TERRIBLE, MISTAKE, CHEATED. Model: PLFL CL 3416D. The description of this liner is that it is quiet. FALSE. Stand next to a jet engine during takeoff...that is how loud it is. If you intend to have a conversation in the same room, be prepared to yell at each other and even then you might not be heard. This liner is unusable if you intend to be in the same room. It is so loud you can hear it outside the house. The boast "runs at a maximum noise level of 4-5 sones, or the volume of a quiet conversation, meaning that it is extremely quiet" right on their website - it's an absolute lie. When I contacted Proline and asked for help with a solution to the problem their attitude was "too bad, you bought it, it's your problem". They said I installed it incorrectly. It was installed by my professional, licensed general contractor. The home inspector actually failed the final inspection in part because of the Proline liner. The inspector said air was blowing back down into the cooking area. I found mounting holes in the housing for the fans that wa blowing air back down the liner. I had to cover them with duct tape. I remodeled my kitchen and bought a custom hood. The hood was built around the dimensions for this liner. Now i am stuck with it. IT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Buy a Venta Hood or Z-Line...don't buy a Proline. Junk and no support. Beyond disappointing. My plan now is to gut this piece of junk, purchase a remote blower and figure out how to install it into the attic since I am stuck with this junk. Seriously, do not buy this liner and don't do business with Proline...they make false claims on their website, they do not stand by their products and their customer support is no help at all." UPDATE: Proline has now changed their website on the sones rating. They duped me, maybe I have saved some other unfortunate soul from falling for their false advertising.

Couple of comments @sfjeff - 1) I think its quite silly to judge a manufacturer's quality based on which domain name provider they are using or their MD5 certificate quality. Most of these manufacturers are small companies that usually don't even have a dedicated IT department. Unlike huge brand names who have global corporate operations, these guys can't always invest in the best "overhead" areas like IT, marketing, etc. In fact, if you had seen the bluestar website a couple of years ago, you would have said they don't seem to be a credible company at all. 2) I own a proline hood that I bought two years ago. Its a 900CFM chimney hood with stainless baffles. The reason for choosing it was similar. I was spending a lot of money on my Bluestar range top, cabinets, counters, and other appliances, and didn't want to spend $1000 or more on a more "brand name" hood. I looked at several hoods in high end showrooms before ordering a proline, and wasn't convinced that there is so much complexity in a hood that would differentiate one vs. another. The downside of a proline was that its online order only so you can't go and see them anywhere. I took the risk of ordering one, it arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. Everything was packed perfectly. Everything installed as expected. I have been using it for two years and don't have any issues. The only comment I would have is that 900CFM seems inadequate *sometimes* when the bluestar is cranking, when cooking something with lots of smoke (like cooking a ribeye steak on high with the 22K burners. Most of the time, its perfectly adequate, but for those once in a while times, I wish I had gone with 1200CFM. The only issue that I encountered were one of the halogen lights went out. I replaced both halogen lights with LED lights for a while, which worked just fine, but the the LED lights had a slightly different contour, so they didn't sit perfectly flush in the light enclosures, hence providing a path for the smoke into the body without passing through the baffles. After a few months, I replaced with halogens again. Also, the main input panel with the fan speed buttons had one button stop working after about a year. I called Proline and got great customer service (it was a US call center). They sent me the replacement part and instructions overnight. I would buy again if I was looking for a new hood. My experience has NOT been good, to say the least I am very frustrated. Placed order for PLEW832.36 1600CFM with 10' chimney extension Jun 20, 2011. ProLine informed me the design was changed, instead of one motor at 1600CFM, the redesign was 2 motors with 1000CFM. I asked about the venting, my response was we have a gasket that covers both outlets to converge into one, ok so I have 1 hole in my wall for the vent, is that right? yes was the answer. Vent did not arrive until Aug20 2011. Vent did not come with the gasket they said it would, I called to inquire about this and they now said it needed its separate vents to beyond the wall and then could be joined into 1 pipe. Installed about 2 days later. As our kitchen did not have a vent, we had to have one installed, quite a process, as we have a room above the kitchen. Turned on the vent and such a racket... quietest on the market, don't think so! So I called Tech support and spoke with Spencer, he said it was not supposed to sound like that and they would send another one to replace the one installed. Also, the chimney extension did not arrive at the same time, called and they said it was on its way, it was delivered Aug 26 @ 6pm! The new vent was delivered Oct 27 2011. Called the installer to come back and take out the old and replace with the new. Guess what! Still the noise, not as bad, but still very noisy. I placed a call to ProLine for tech support and was told he was out of the office and a message would be given to Spencer for a callback, I am still waiting for that call. I was looking for a different type of "Y" connecter and a distribution center for HVAC advised me to call a company which specializes in vent work. I did, they took a look and said it needs 2 separate vent runs. However as they were preparing to do the work yesterday late afternoon, they removed the vent pipe and still the noise on one of the motors, sounds like the left. The installer said it sounded like the bearings were bad. I called and spoke with Heather, she said she could do nothing about it and will talk with Spencer on Monday. As a footnote, this company is a venting company, that is all they do, they install Viking, GE, Dacor, etc... high end vents, they have been in business for 40 years, so they should know what they are doing. All of this has been a great expense, each time they have to come back it is more money. Now, the vent company, will add additional vent at a cost of about $350. So this install process has cost us as much as the vent ... Vent with chimney $1000, first install $630, additional install $350. Also, manual that comes with the vent is for a single motor. I feel that if they changed the design, venting is a big process to making the vent work properly, they should have advised on that process and have new manuals made. I must say that Proline has been very accommodating, but they don't tell the truth about when the product will be here (too many conflicting excuses). I think 2 months wait each time is a little long for arrival. Perhaps they should put more vents on that slow boat from China! Sometimes what seems to be less expensive turns out to be more expensive, than if you had chosen a more expensive one in the first place. Please CHOOSE carefully.

Purchased a hood from Proline in late March.Rec'd w/in a week.It's a nice looking unit.Chimney was damaged and 4 holes in the support were double drilled.Asked for replacements and wanted the 2 pieces cut down.We're willing to pay for that.Said they'd have Fedex pick them up.Finally after a few phone calls, they send Fedex to pick items up.More time passed and FINALLY got the cut down SS chimney.We're still waiting for the cutdown support and still getting the runaround.We are so frustrated.This is an island hood and one Proline worker said the support with double drilled holes would be okay to use as is.Mind you, it must hold 60#, and we live near a train track.We're concerned that over time, the screws could loosen and possibly cause it to fall on our new stove.The unit weighs 60#.To which this person said, "It's no big deal.It will work okay even w/the double drilled holes." Sure--they don't have to live w/it. NOTE:If you buy from Proline, be sure you read EVERYTHING they have on their website.Which is A LOT! It's now the 3rd week in June and the hood is still sitting on our LR floor waiting for the cut down support that will make it fit our counter to ceiling space. Their CS folk keep saying, "I'm sorry." and that they are waiting to hear from persons in their Ohio facility.It seems to be a continual problem.I asked to speak (not the first time)to the owner and it seems he's always in China. Their hoods look nice, hopefully the quality is good, but their integrity is in question.Too bad those that answer their phones have to take all the flak from customers.They likely are trying, but it's hard trying to move dead meat. Sure hope they get paid REALLY well.
