This ProLine Range Hood sounds too good to be true. I don't know enough to be a good judge so someone who knows, please tell me whether to keep this on my list or cross it off. $669.95

Couple of comments @sfjeff -

1) I think its quite silly to judge a manufacturer's quality based on which domain name provider they are using or their MD5 certificate quality. Most of these manufacturers are small companies that usually don't even have a dedicated IT department. Unlike huge brand names who have global corporate operations, these guys can't always invest in the best "overhead" areas like IT, marketing, etc. In fact, if you had seen the bluestar website a couple of years ago, you would have said they don't seem to be a credible company at all.

2) I own a proline hood that I bought two years ago. Its a 900CFM chimney hood with stainless baffles. The reason for choosing it was similar. I was spending a lot of money on my Bluestar range top, cabinets, counters, and other appliances, and didn't want to spend $1000 or more on a more "brand name" hood. I looked at several hoods in high end showrooms before ordering a proline, and wasn't convinced that there is so much complexity in a hood that would differentiate one vs. another. The downside of a proline was that its online order only so you can't go and see them anywhere. I took the risk of ordering one, it arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. Everything was packed perfectly. Everything installed as expected. I have been using it for two years and don't have any issues. The only comment I would have is that 900CFM seems inadequate *sometimes* when the bluestar is cranking, when cooking something with lots of smoke (like cooking a ribeye steak on high with the 22K burners. Most of the time, its perfectly adequate, but for those once in a while times, I wish I had gone with 1200CFM.

The only issue that I encountered were one of the halogen lights went out. I replaced both halogen lights with LED lights for a while, which worked just fine, but the the LED lights had a slightly different contour, so they didn't sit perfectly flush in the light enclosures, hence providing a path for the smoke into the body without passing through the baffles. After a few months, I replaced with halogens again.

Also, the main input panel with the fan speed buttons had one button stop working after about a year. I called Proline and got great customer service (it was a US call center). They sent me the replacement part and instructions overnight.

I would buy again if I was looking for a new hood.

Pinch,

I'd love to say that you found a bargain. I can't comment on the hood itself, as I haven't seen it. I can supply some tangential information that makes me concerned:

prolinerangehoods.com is registered using GoDaddy, which is the cheapest registrar out there and held with little respect in the Internet services community.

The SSL (security) certificate used is RapidSSL which is also a "discount" provider -- the "cheap version" of GeoTrust/Equifax certificates, and uses a signature (MD5) that is no longer considered secure enough by many people and organizations. Better quality certificates are only a few hundred dollars, as opposed to this $69 special.

There is no "800 number" available. You can get one for $10 a month these days.

They chose a brand name that is very close to that used by both BlueStar and KitchenAid for their hoods.

There is no statement of origin, nor warranty/manufacturer contact information in their owner's manuals (there is space in the PDF for the latter, but is blank). The owner's manual states a one-year warranty, in contrast to the web site's statements.

Caveat emptor...

ctycdm, may I ask which Prizer hood and blower you have? I am trying to find a Prizer model that is 36" wide and 27" deep and takes a 1200 cfm internal blower. It seems all of the Prizer standard wall-mounted hoods are only up to 24" deep. Will I have to look at their designer series? Thank you very much! Edit to add: I do see that Prizer Professional BBQ Hood has several depth options: 27", 30", and 33". However, their spec says remote blowers are strongly recommended for barbeque hoods. I think I have to use an internal blower in my case, because I don't have an attic above my kitchen (15'-16' ceiling), and the hood will be on an interior wall, only about 6' away from the exterior wall. Edit again to add: ctycdm, I just found out from your old post that yours is an island hood, 1000cfm remote blower on 8" duct, and also realized from your post that Prizer can custom build to any dimensions and specs. :) This post was edited by ILoveCookie on Wed, Mar 26, 14 at 18:37

Hi there ! Pro-Line always has the 10% off sales, all the time. I personally would not purchase anything from this company. I purchased a range hood back in July, I am still waiting for the blower, I received the hood just last month. I find it very hard to get a hold of anybody on their 1 877 line, and when I do, nobody knows what is going on. They just keep telling me product is on backorder and will be shipping next week. My advice, look else where.

Purchased a hood from Proline in late March.Rec'd w/in a week.It's a nice looking unit.Chimney was damaged and 4 holes in the support were double drilled.Asked for replacements and wanted the 2 pieces cut down.We're willing to pay for that.Said they'd have Fedex pick them up.Finally after a few phone calls, they send Fedex to pick items up.More time passed and FINALLY got the cut down SS chimney.We're still waiting for the cutdown support and still getting the runaround.We are so frustrated.This is an island hood and one Proline worker said the support with double drilled holes would be okay to use as is.Mind you, it must hold 60#, and we live near a train track.We're concerned that over time, the screws could loosen and possibly cause it to fall on our new stove.The unit weighs 60#.To which this person said, "It's no big deal.It will work okay even w/the double drilled holes." Sure--they don't have to live w/it. NOTE:If you buy from Proline, be sure you read EVERYTHING they have on their website.Which is A LOT! It's now the 3rd week in June and the hood is still sitting on our LR floor waiting for the cut down support that will make it fit our counter to ceiling space. Their CS folk keep saying, "I'm sorry." and that they are waiting to hear from persons in their Ohio facility.It seems to be a continual problem.I asked to speak (not the first time)to the owner and it seems he's always in China. Their hoods look nice, hopefully the quality is good, but their integrity is in question.Too bad those that answer their phones have to take all the flak from customers.They likely are trying, but it's hard trying to move dead meat. Sure hope they get paid REALLY well.

Since when does using the #1 domain registrar, which happens to also be the least expensive, make a hill of beans difference when it comes to the quality product a company makes?

I recently had the opportunity to tour a Mercedes Benz plant. Believe it or not, they were actually using disposable Bic pens instead of Cross or Mont Blanc. Based on your assumptions, I should cross them off my list since saving money equates to poor quality products.

I've had a ProLine hood in my home for nearly 3 years and it is the high quality, high performance product I expected. I also considered it to be fairly priced. There are less expensive hoods out there but you get what you pay for. I imagine that's the one sfjeff settled for so he had some change left to pay his over priced ARIN registry fees.

Go with ProLine, you will not be disappointed.

No comment on the range hood, but the "detective work" is ludicrously dumb. Web hosting has no correlation to quality of their actual product.

nice to hear - probably going to get a proline 54" island hood. May go with their newer ProS $1800 which looks nice (not sure I want all the CFM that one can produce but you dont use high much) or the pro version which costs more $2200 and then you need to add the blower ($3-900) bit speed is infinitely adjustable, or one of the "regular" ones $1900 1200cfm....

I strongly urge that you do not buy Proline. I recently purchased a Proline insert for my custom hood. I had the hood built around the specs for the Proline insert. After speaking with a Proline rep they convinced me that this would be a good liner. I was concerned about the low price, but the rep assured me that was a promotional price, and they wanted to get reviews on the product.

My review: TERRIBLE, MISTAKE, CHEATED. Model: PLFL CL 3416D.

The description of this liner is that it is quiet. FALSE. Stand next to a jet engine during takeoff...that is how loud it is. If you intend to have a conversation in the same room, be prepared to yell at each other and even then you might not be heard. This liner is unusable if you intend to be in the same room. It is so loud you can hear it outside the house.

When I contacted Proline and asked for help with a solution to the problem their attitude was "too bad, you bought it, it's your problem".

I remodeled my kitchen and bought a custom hood. The hood was built around the dimensions for this liner. Now i am stuck with it. IT ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Buy a Venta Hood or Z-Line...don't buy a Proline. Junk and no support. Beyond disappointing.

My plan now is to gut this piece of junk, purchase a remote blower and figure out how to install it into the attic since I am stuck with this junk.

Seriously, do not buy this liner and don't do business with Proline...they make false claims on their website, they do not stand by their products and their customer support is no help at all.
