can't get black spruce cones to dispense seeds
Comments (3)Too hot! Cooked seeds won't grow. Just dry the cones (get some new ones!) in a sunny window, and if they don't open fully, soak in cold water and re-dry. Repeat as necessary; sooner or later the repeated flexing of the scales with the wet-dry-wet-dry regime will open them enough to let the seed fall out. One other tip - I've found from a lifetime of collecting cones, that cones larger-than-average for a species very often have better quality seed in. Small cones are often small due to disease or pest damage, and they don't have good seeds in. That may well be the reason for your lack of success. Comments (36)Can anyone recommend a dispenser with a LONG spout? The one we have now (Price Pfister) has an utterly useless 2" spout. I have found a 3 7/8" spout, also 3 1/2", but am wondering if there are any that are longer. The new sink is 10" deep. We weren't going to get a new soap dispenser, but after reading this thread, I thought, "I don't want ugly bottles on my new granite!" I could do a rack mounted on the sink cabinet door, but I think the dispenser is neater :-) It just needs a long spout so it can actually squirt dish soap into the pots, instead of dribbling down the side of the sink. Will definitely get a NeverMT--so glad that I heard of it here!...See MoreDoes the Never MT work with a soap dispenser from Lowe's?
Comments (3)I'm afraid I can't answer your question but can tell you what I learned when I ordered one several weeks ago. I called the website to see if their device would be compatible with the Brasstech SD that I have. The following day I received a call back and was told that they were quite confident that it would work with any SD that I had and, if it didn't, I could return it for a full refund, including shipping. There is only one part of this device that needs to be compatible with your SD: the tubing running from your SD down to the bottle of soap you keep under the sink. That tubing must slip tightly over the stiff plastic pipe that descends down into your existing soap bottle. The only other compatibility issue that you'll face is ensuring that the grocery store soap bottle is threaded and sized to accept one of the caps that they send you, through which the tubing from the SD runs. But they send you five or six caps (you store the unused ones on the tubing in case you change brands) so I would doubt that will be a problem either. I was impressed with this product. It's incredibly simple in concept and they're probably making a killing on it. But it does what it says it does. How often have you bought a product that does THAT??? Comments (7)Moon, I got your email and I'll respond to you offline shortly. In the meantime, hang in there! I think I soooo understand your circumstances! I first embarked on my kitchen reno in December 2006, as a single woman acting as her own GC in NYC. Well, for most of 2007, it was mainly a time of false starts, turnarounds, turn backs, time outs, etc. Like you, I lost a whole lot of money -- primarily because of bad hiring decisions and lack of project clarity. I also thought I would never ever have a completed kitchen! Finally, in 2008, and with a lot of help from this forum, I got back on the horse. I bit the financial bullet and hired a licensed GC and an ID. In the end, that decision to spend more on a reliable construction team is what actually helped me to start saving money on my reno project. Plus, I'm thrilled to say that my reno was pretty much completed by spring of this year (a handful of matters still remain to be finished/resolved). BTW, in sharing that, I'm not suggesting that anyone has to go the professional GC/designer route to get a kitchen done. Heck no! There are way too many people here who have turned out fabulous DIY kitchens or acted as their own GC, etc. with marvelous results! I'm just saying that I do understand that the challenge of trying to do even the simplest of construction projects on your own can be super hard -- especially if you are an inexperienced remodeler, female, and living in the Big Apple. So, hang in there, lean more on us, and I'm sure we'll see your finished kitchens photos sooner than later!...See Morefunction_first
