Well, now this stuff is on my newest black bamboo shoot (the only black shoot so far this season). I hope it won't stunt it like it did the other Sunburst shoots (they made it to about 10-15 feet and then their tops got coated and soft (and some fell off completely) - they seem to be branching, though). It is not nearly as wet here as it was when it first appeared, yet I still have the white stuff coating my new shoots. It is on two more Sunburst shoots, but so far the Hawaiian Stripe is clear and the Wamin on the other side of the yard is ok. Does anyone have any ideas what it is or if I should worry about it? I've been spraying it off the black shoot with a high pressure hose - then it stays clear for a few days. So far that shoot is still growing. I'm worried that may not be the best idea, though??? I do try to spray away from the other bamboo... Thanks for any input!

It looks more like hail damage to me, or maybe leaf spotting from water droplets in hot sun. Either way I wouldn't worry. Basil growth kicks with plenty of warmth and sun, don't fuss or overfeeed or it can backfire.

Jaime... If you already have a photobucket account it is real easy. When you upload your pics from your computer, don't use the largest size; a nice size is "max image size: 640 x 480". Once you set it to upload to a specific size, it will default to that until you change it. After uploading, click on the HTML TAG line (the second or middle one). A little yellow box that says "copied" will appear for a moment. Then go over to your Hosta Forum window and paste wherever you want your photo. It's much easier if you can have two browser windows open at the same time. My browser has tabs...easier yet so you can go back and forth between GW Hosta Forum and Photobucket with ease. You can paste many pictures as you wish within a single "message". I usually type a brief description of the picture on the line before it. Then, click on "preview message". Everything I see in those pictures says to me "minor nutrient deficiency, particularly insufficient nitrogen, and low light, combining to cause low level of photosynthesis." If you plan to keep those plants indoors much longer, pot them up in a larger container so you can bury the stems a little ... but not so deep that the root wad is at the bottom of the container 'cuz you'll drown the roots. Choose a tall container. Feed the plants after potting up. Use something balance. Those plants need nitrogen and potassium for sure. The main stems are too spindly and hard looking ... need to be stockier, plumper, etc. And then harden the plants off, if they've not already got that treatment, so you can eventually expose them to some real sunlight. They need some sun ... but not all at once ... and some fresh outdoors air. I'm not a real fan of "potting mix" for starting and holding young transplants. Maybe when they get outside in large growing containers. But while they're still in starter cups they should be in starter mix ... nice and fluffy with plenty of aeration for the roots. And I think Miracle-Gro potting mixes are just too damned fancy for tomatoes anyway. You need something soilless and well drained and without all that BS additive moisture retention crud in it. Just my opinions.
