Kim, as I was looking in the background at your beautiful bungalow-style built-ins and fireplace, I was wondering--are you in the PNW by any chance?

teacats, thank you to both you and your husband! We had to take the door off one of the narrower doorways to get it in the house from the workshop out back! Being that it's oak, it weighs a ton.

Believe it or not, we're in northern New Mexico, and the original portion of the house is actually an early 1890's Vic with the Arts & Crafts fireplace, built-ins, windows, and other A & C details added in the early 1920's, we believe. Some areas in New Mexico have a lot of bungalows, particularly this town. It seems a lot of them were inhabited by employees of the SF railroad. Albuquerque actually has many nifty bungalows, as well.

Brutuses, thank you! It's been a very busy summer in terms of the home projects, so I've not been on the board much. I'll post again when I really have it done. We had been using a small Ikea loveseat for a number of years, which was good for fitting in all the cramped rentals we lived in for so long. It looks like we're going to have to rearrange the LR a bit in order to accommodate this six foot long settee!

funkyart, thank you! My husband is getting pretty dang good at woodworking, and it's been a great help budget-wise. We did spend some time working out the styling of the settee, and sort of combined different aspects of various designs we found into the settee. We think the house appreciates it!

cooperbailey, thank you! It's a bit of a 'mutant' Victorian/A&C, but the quirkiness somehow seems to work. I'll post on the countertops soon, and the pine floor in the little china cabinet hallway that I refinished earlier this month.

anele, thank you! I haven't posted a lot of 'overview' type room pictures because we're rehabbing and so much of it is not...picturesque. For example, we still have one wall in the LR above that has been mostly stripped of the layers of old wallpaper down to cracked and crumbling plaster. I think I did post a few pics of that particular mess a while ago, and we still haven't done any more work on that wall yet! I guess it will be a winter job, as the kitchen has consumed our time and energies this summer. Believe me, I'm very anxious to have *something* around here in a completed state, and when that happens I'll definitely have a lot of picture posting to catch up on. I get so envious of all the great homes shown here that are finished, clean and decorated!
