Finished. Maybe. I may add some pearls. Here is a link that might be useful: Kudzu's Blog

Be aware that with switches and 3ways white is not necessarily neutral. White can be used as a traveler or as a switch leg.

Thank you, gentlemen. I know they are not UL listed, but our community's home inspector has directed us to use them in the past. It turns out that I do have access to the rear of this (it is in a partial stud wall open to an unfinished closet), so I may try to rework or replace the box to be flush with the outer wall. My biggest problem is that the wall is about 1" thick with some fuzzy, fiberboard kind of wall covering that I have never seen before! I think I will need some extra-deep switch boxes to do that, however, because the boxes are connected to conduit, rather than AC or NM. (Hope I am making sense!) Thanks again. Angie.

Ron- Thanks. I'm in a major U.S. city. The house is from the 1920's but with mainly updated, grounded wiring. (There is a small bit of knob and tube on separate circuits.) The 12 gauge is on a 20 amp breaker. The other two 14 gauge cables are each on 15 amp breakers. They may be at the end of a run, but I don't see how they could be feeds to other outlets since they are both hot when disconnected from the split receptacle, and there are no more cables in the box. The kitchen has two other receptacle boxes with 12 gauge wiring which will also receive GFCIs. This is not part of a remodel or rewire project; my friend would just like to change all the regular, grounded kitchen receptacles to GFCIs. Further thoughts?
