Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan!!!

Last summer my husband and I hit the motherlode at a school auction....shelves, storage chests, tables...we even scored a drafting table and a card catelog. Anyway, the first project is finally done. We turned an ugly brown storage cabinet into an armoire for our bedroom. Here are some before and after photos.

Liza, it's common for an AV's first blooms to be different. It may take until the second or even third bloom cycle for a plant to settle down. Patience, Grasshopper. ;-) Light pink with brown frilly edges sounds like Rob's Sarsparilla; if it's a mini or semimini. It took a month for the flowers to open? You and your husband did a great job. The kitchen is gorgeous. I hope you are able to retire soon to enjoy it. I have seen esmeralda costa but not the rosa. very pretty. You took on a big job and you did bathrooms too. Hope you share photos of those. We are in the midst of a DIY kitchen redo. My husband just took up the same green floor (original to our 1968 house) a week or so ago under several layers of flooring. Husband had to buy a new super duper crowbar as the green floor was firmly attached to the underlayment plywood with hundreds of nails. I admire your hands on involvement as I am more of the helper who cleans up.

Luis, when I planted it I did not check because I had no info except the name. I had a visitor yesterday who has the same plant - in partial shade - and she said that hers does not have nearly the same amount of color. Both of our plants came from the same nursery her mom's. Remember, the sun in the PNW is much less intense - due to our being so far north. And a scorching day in Shoreline, WA is around 90 - 94 degrees and we will only have one or two hot days and it will be followed by 70 - 80 degrees for at least 5 days or more! Our zone is 8a, but the climate is Marine.

njtomboy, I don't mind you linking my thread to HGTV...actually, I was thrilled to have it on the HGTV message board. I was disappointed though that I couldn't find it. I hadn't looked at this thread for quite some time so it was in June that you linked it...I'm not sure how long threads stay active on their message board. Do you know if there is an archive maybe. I haven't really used their board before. I would like to see if there were any responses.
