Almost Done!

I have been very busy the last few weeks composing a business plan for a place I am interestead in buying. Working here and there on my mosaic for my daughter has been a great stress relife and I cant wait until its done! Any ideas on grout. From the beginning I was planning on black cause its my favorite but I worry the purple is to dark and the skin color and dress on the fairy will darken to much.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I love it! What about a light charcoal grout? What did you glue this on? Really nice!!! Are you going going to open up a mosaic shop!!!!!

Lyfia is right, those types of products do not kill the mold, they simply cover it up. Also, no one can tell if the mold is "not bad for your health" by just looking at it. That is hooey. Hire an inspector and find out for yourself what type of mold you are dealing with. Only then will you be able to make educated decisions in how to treat it. The builder, even if he has been honest with you so far, is probably going to resist aggressive treatment because it will take time and money and slow down the work on the project by several weeks. In the end it is you who needs to decide whether the type and amount of mold bothers you and what you want to do about it. The builder will likely be looking for the quick fix. It is very difficult to prevent mold from occurring in open construction, but an inspector can help you determine what a normal "spore count" is for construction and whether you have a problem that is beyond that level. Typically if you can see it growing, you've got too many mold spores and they need to be treated. Remember that no one else will be looking out for your best interest, so learn all you can and question the treatments until you are comfortable with the approach. We thought that our builder was trustworthy also until the mold problems arose. After that we learned how awful and dishonest he really is...it has been very difficult building with someone you don't trust as the GC, but we've learned the hard way to question everything from window flashing to how many coats of paint are going on the walls and what quality of paint is used! We're about two weeks from moving in and they're still lying to us weekly but through micro-managing and learning every detail I am at least comfortable that we've held them accountable to build a quality home. The best part about being finished won't be moving in...it will be never dealing with the builder again! I sure hope that your builder is a better person and runs an ethical business and can help you address the mold issue and move on.

HA = that's funny "buildinghome". We had zero problems, not one tiny hitch. Yet the home started off at $240K and we kept adding little things. Ended up at $253K. Little things add up. Double the size of the deck, better appliances, better furnace (make sure you get a good furnace and not cheap builders furnace). Upgrade from a cheap Lennox gas fireplace (a true builders box - run away if you can) to a Mendota. Make sure the water heater is not sitting on the floor (rust). Make sure you have a regular door in the garage so you will not have to open the big door all the time. 12x14 foot deck is too small for real use, we doubled the size and because we face south we used wood and not composite with gets REAL hot in summer. If you can get an extra foot of overhang do it. Good for shade and run off. If you are on a hill make sure the garage is on the downhill side of the house. Make sure you have windows on all four sides. I'm surprised to see so many spec homes with no windows in the sides! Wash tub in the laundry room is a must! Outdoor faucets, put them higher up so you do not have to crawl on the ground to hook up the hose. If you are on a budget, get the expensive lights for the living areas and go cheap in the bathrooms and other areas. Then once you get back on your feet buy the good lights for the bathrooms. Paint everything neutral until you see how the light falls in the house. Don't go fancy YET! We would also build in a heartbeat . . . . . if we had too! I agree with bluekitobsessed - unless you need it for privacy I like the uncovered windows. Otherwise, I agree with you on the bamboo - that would continue the lovely peaceful feel you have created without detracting too much from the simplicity that makes it feel so soothing. I love everything about your room - beautiful job.

I did something similar with a purple fill/black grout. Black is too dark. I would go with grey overall and paint the grout of the designs charcoal to make them pop!

Thank You! I started this a long time ago when I was just learning, then picked it back up a few weeks ago. I used an old broken 2x4 I found in the basement! I am actually trying to buy a coffee shop in my neighborhood. Its the one I talked about that wanted to show my art! Funny - if I buy it I can show for a month and wont need to pay a commission!

I think if you go with a medium gray grout you are going to lose any contrast between the green and the purple and it will meld together. I would go black for the background and something lighter for the fairy.

Does the green spell something? I swear it says SEX. . . . or am I misreading?

It is supposed to spell Lexi with the I being the flower. The L is a little to swoopee and I hope I can fix it somehow. I cant get a good picture of the whole thing because it is so long. Its about 2and a half feet.

Oooo, this is sooo pretty! The fairy is so graceful and I LOVE the green and purple combo! I'm horrible at grout color decisions, but the gray advice sounds good.
Glad you told us what it said, it's been driving me crazy trying to figure it out, now it's plain as the nose on my face!

the place I am trying to buy has featured artists every month for 9yrs. now. The next year is already booked and I told the owner I would keep to his commitments, but after that I am open to anything! It would be really cool to get a bit of everyones work and do a Mosaic Gallery!!! Something to keep in mind.
