Comments (22)Lauren -- thanks much, we are trying to get our DIY/pro mix to "take" in our 6 x 10.5ish room! Agree we may end up with 1 fixed if budget constraints get in the way, but seems like it'd be a shame. 1) Window credit goes to tiler, though we made his job harder by forcing him to design from the full run of 6 x 6 tiles between the window. All cuts relate to that, for better or worse. 2) Yep, leaded glass -- I found/fell in love with the salvage doors years back (not in my house, alas) and basically designed the bathroom around 'em. Fell a little less in love with them after spending hours using progressively more toxic cleaners on the decades of mineral etc deposits before sending them off to the cabinetmaker. And of course after priming and painting (and painting) the cab boxes. But I'm feeling the love return, ha. 3) Oh, glass tile would have been too easy, ha. You know I love my aqua iridescent glass mosaic backsplash, but Mr Vix and I both feel in love with a ceramic liner topped with oyster shell slivers. Luckily the bath is small and our field tile was rock bottom in price, sigh. HEY MARISA -- No need to worry about being lonely while all others finish -- we just went to install our sink and the GC's plumber didn't seem to take our vanity shelf configuration into account, so we'll probably have to call (another!) pro for help. No running water for meeeeeeee though it's nice to have it out of the den (though its mirror needs to join it!):...See MoreThank you, Framing almost complete, need more help!
Comments (3)Thanks, the copper flashing is hanging out in the living room. :) We also are going to try to replace some of the lower siding as the last owners left us a few pieces (we hope we have enough). It's amazing how even just the new framing makes the house look better. Flashing is expensive - it was $30 for a roll at Lowes. Given that and the little framing was $150 at our local lumber store (and they give me contractor/good prices) I can see why you guys are charging so much - plus it's hard work. I'm glad we only have a small deck so I can do what every I want. Do we have to bolt down the stairs to the concrete slab or can we let them be free hanging - in our Stanley book it showed some free hanging. We thought for one stair it might be ok. Bolting down that post was not fun and for one post took hours till I thought to use the chisel large attached to our air compressor along with the hammer drill and a good bit (our neighbor gave us the chisel hammer to get rid of the old step - we have to get one of those as they are sweet). The previous owner tried to build things to last so that concrete isn't going anywhere. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!...See MoreLazy Susans Everywhere! (H4H)
Comments (3)Their store just off 301 is small & kind of sad. Go out the back door & under the covered area where it looks like they have 2000 doors. You really have to weed thru the stuff, but you'd be surprised. Their warehouse on Old Leonardstown Rd is only open Sat & Sun. I haven't been there yet. I never used to find what I needed at these places, either. Then I started haunting Community Forklift. I realized they got stuff in weekly and now it seems I almost always find something I need. I would really like to find old, paned windows that I could hang on my porch (after I rebuild it). The height of the screened area is 54", so tall is hard to find. I'm going back there tomorrow, though. They have a preemergent that's usually $30-some a bag for $5.00 and it's biodegradable. Cock-a-doodle-do. It's corn & chicken poop. Yummy. [LOL] Give it a try & keep an open mind. :) Christine...See MoreNavy bedroom almost done
Comments (24)Thanks everyone! I'm not sure what brand the bed is. We bought it from one of those cheap no name warehouse places. It was around $500. Right now I'm trying to figure out the windows. Hubby really likes the trim and doesn't want to cover it up but I like the coziness of curtains. The other issue is that the bed overlaps the window a bit and there's only a couple of inches between the frame and the wall on the other side. It's so hot right now that I can't imagine a rug in there but I'll probably end up getting one come winter. I was planning to put lamps on the bed tables but we don't really need them and the chandelier is so obvious that I think two lamps would be overkill. The rest of the second floor is in the same condition that this room was in pre-reno. Our next project is to put a bathroom upstairs so we can then put the kids bedrooms up there. Here's the peacock....See Morebrendamc
