Why she's going to House of hope.....

Bio mom has finally hit rock bottom! This may sound negative but actually it is a good thing. There is no where left for her to turn.

I posted that she has decided to go to the House of Hope. Here's the reason why. She is obviously still strung out even though she has been telling us her and boyfriend are clean and he is beating on her still. We knew this already but she was in denial.

She has reached the breaking point with the girls. The reason she hasn't called or visited is because it hurts her so bad she spirals for days after every contact. She misses them but is not fit and she knows that. The pain of them only wanting to talk to her for three minutes before hanging up is eating her. They are moving on. I told her she was missing it...they are reading and can tie their shoes now. More tears.

She is with a neighbor because her BF is flipping out that she is leaving. He became violent. She actually was interested in going when she recieved the brochure over a monthago but he talked her out of it. Told her she didn't need it and we would just use it against her in court etc. She held onto the brochure anyway hiding it under the bed.

She was on pills when I spoke to her and has not been taking her meds. She is having suicidal thoughts again. She's been cutting herself.

She was arrested for felony drug charges in february and she did not tell us because BF advised her not to. Her court date is coming up on the 7th of this month. Theyre hitting her with intent to sell. There is a very good possibility she will go to prison.

She has finally realized she is out of control and she can't get back on track alone. SHe is going to admit herself into the hospital tonight to get regulated. She needs to be supervised and she needs her meds. She will then go to her hearing and tell them her wishes to go to the House of Hope. If they let her go she will serve any time after her year long treatment. If she goes to prison first...she'll go when she gets out.

Everyone who prays here....pray. Any of you who don't, cross your fingers. getting arrested will probably wind up being the best thing that ever happened to her.

Doodle, I cannot imagine the added stress this has been on your life. I cannot imagine living my life as Bio-Mom (that actually sounds a bit like a superhero, doesn't it?)

Your family has a long, unpaved road ahead of it. Picture us walking ahead of you, filling in the pot-holes. Nothing I can do but imagine things working out for the best. Blessings to your family. May you all be healthy.

CIndy, yes oleander can be very dangerous if ingested. I have several plants and cats, dogs and children. You kinda learn from an early age down here to never touch and oleander as a kid. From Wikepedia: "Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants and contains numerous toxic compounds, many of which can be deadly to people, especially young children. The toxicity of Oleander is considered extremely high and it has been reported that in some cases only a small amount had lethal or near lethal effects (Goetz 1998). The most significant of these toxins are oleandrin and neriine, which are cardiac glycosides (Goetz 1998). They are present in all parts of the plant, but are most concentrated in the sap, which can block out receptors in the skin causing numbness. It is thought that Oleander may contain many other unknown or un-researched compounds that may have dangerous effects (Inchem 2005). Oleander bark contains rosagenin which is known for its strychnine-like effects. The entire plant, including the milky white sap, is toxic, and any part can cause an adverse reaction. Oleander is also known to hold its toxicity even after drying. It is thought that a handful or 10-20 leaves consumed by an adult can cause an adverse reaction, and a single leaf could be lethal to an infant or child. According to the Toxic Exposure Surveillance System (TESS) in 2002 there were 847 known human poisonings in the United States related to Oleander (Watson 2003)."

A lot of us gals are attracted to those 'bad boys'. And a lot of those 'bad boys' can be pretty charming and even nice at times. This fellow has obviously captured her heart for most likely a bunch of reasons....some good and some bad. He may be 'misunderstood', she may have 'low self-esteem'. She may need whatever financial assitance she can get from him.....if she gets any....and doesn't want to alienate him. She may be afraid of him. He may be great in bed :) Whatever the reasons, as everyone else has said already, she'll have to work through this one herself and all you can do is be a caring listener and help pick up the pieces as they fall. I have been going through this with our eldest daughter, now 36, for about 6 years........now in the throes of divorce. It hurts so to watch them make mistake after mistake, showing such poor judgement. But experience is the best teacher as painful as it can be. And, some times I really believe that it all had to happen, was God's plan all along, that she should pair up with her soon-to-be X because they produced the most wonderful little human being, now 4..........a delightful, adorable, little guy that we will all treasue forever. At least one really great thing came out of the whole mess!!! Good luck and God bless.

Reinforce her when she's walking WELL. Keep treats in your pocket and practice practice practice. You really don't need to choke her to teach her to walk nicely. She may be walking a little better for your boyfriend because he has a deeper voice when correcting, or he may have worked with her more, or be exuding confidence/leadership on the walks. In the house, she needs to generalize her learning from you to your boyfriend. So he should start working with her inside, asking her to sit for dinner, or for a toy, or to go outside...and practice with her around the house. Reward. Dogs DON'T generalize well, so it's important that both of you train her regularly and that you positively reinforce with treats just until she really understands the commands. Then fade. I've noticed some men tend to repeat commands. This confuses the dogs. So watch him and make sure he says the command once, then helps her into the position if she doesn't get it. Follow-through is key.

Thanks for all your ideas, Al didn't sleep at nite he slept during the day and if he slept at nite it would only be for an hour or so. Al was only with us for 3 weeks after we got her. and she slept through the nite except for this last month. the neighbourhood is quiet only 7 houses and when we (my dd or myself) get up to see what she's doing all she does is follow us back to our bedrooms. i think she's trying to say i'm bored come play, i'm gracie and i'm little! she does love all the attention she gets even from the most misable people you might know, her personality is what you'd call "super", sometimes i'm afraid that someone might just scoop her up and run away with her. she's so different from our "boy" he was just mean, her she's just happy,happy. thanks again for your help. ps just a little bit of nosyness here but have you noticed that alot of pets are overweight? deb keeping warm in northern canada

My prayers for all, especially the children. The thought of a mother going to jail, which in my state, intent to sell is pretty serious. Sometimes people have to hit bottem before they come up.

It's sad that she has hit this point, but, like you said, iti's the best thing that could ever happen to her. Some people have to be shattered, not just cracked, before they realize they need to be fixed.

If she can stick with this, she will come out an even better and wiser mother than she was to begin with. And the girls are still young enough that she can repair the damage she's done and they may not even remember much of it.

Doodle - you are a special person caring for someone who has hurt you over and over. Most of us don't have that capability. You are an example for the girls and they will appreciate the grace you showed their mother.
