Need to get busy on some projects!

Good morning all,

I have been thinking--it's hard but I force myself to do that once in awhile--that I had better get busy on painting more projects.

If I don't, I won't have anything to post on here! :0(

Maybe that might be why this forum got so inactive--people just ran out of pics to post and projects to discuss???

I have no excuse not to paint--I only work two days a week now, only me and DH at home, lots of supplies on hand, tons of good patterns, a good stash of wood and some metal trays--I just tend to procrastinate and let the opportunity slip away.

I so enjoy coming here to see your projects, share my projects with you too, and to chat about everything! Let's make sure we don't let this forum grind to a halt!

And I am still hoping that with Winter coming--more people will be inside and they will do some painting projects and come share them here with us.

I'd even love to see old projects they've painted--those often spark an idea for someone else, and they are so fun to look at. Maybe with everyone pulling out their decorations for Halloween and Christmas--they will take pics to show us!

Hey! Now I am so relieved! Just realized that I can still post pics of projects here for awhile yet--I have lots of holiday things I can show you! Wahoo!

It's almost time to bring down the Halloween boxes and I'll see what's in there. Can't even remember, but I know for sure I have some more jars. I'll keep painting and posting too so between us and the others maybe we can keep things interesting. I'm hoping as the weather cools we'll get more projects going here. We've just got to keep each other pumped up and excited to get painting!! ha I'm hoping to start a few things this weekend. ~Anj

You may get more people here as the weather gets colder.
I belong to several dollhouse groups and during the summer there's not a whole lot of posting, just the regulars who post almost daily anyway.
I usually start getting back to my various arts when school starts, but the kitchen still isn't quite done and after that we still have to paint the dining room, the family room, the hall and living room. We figure it'll by done by Thanksgiving...and I was planning on finishing my dollhouse bangalow then completing another dollhouse project for my mom.....oh well.
Maybe I should buy some unpainted minifurniture or try some more miniature paintings. I don't make as big a mess with them and they don't take as long in case I'm interrupted. I'm always interrupted......
DH comes looking for me. "What are you doing? Do we have anything to eat? What are you doing now?"

I also have a hard time finding it in bulk. I have gotten it at our local feed store for years, but suddenly they stopped selling it in the amt I want, only sell whole bags now. 25 lbs is way too much & I don't have room in my freezer for a 25lb bag of fish food. I told them I will just have to go elsewhere, problem is there is not another store that is close to get it from. Guess I will be making a day trip somewhere soon. The move doesn't seem to be an issue that is causing conflict. It seems like BM wants to be in control and my suggestion is to get an agreement in writing that is enforceable. If dad is the one that's being reasonable & willing to cooperate, then he could let mom write up the terms to her liking and sign the agreement. At least, then they would have something that SHE came up with so SHE can't argue or change it. He would know what to expect and it would make her feel like she has some control of the situation. It's a power struggle and it takes two to keep it going. If you refuse to argue about anything, then it's no longer fun for her. If her goal is to phase dad out of the child's life, then she is making a mistake and that is probably why she keeps losing time. Going to court is expensive and if you can write an agreement, that's the best thing to do. In our case, my SD's mom moved 150 miles away & signed over custody less than a month after we had a trial that cost us over $10k and gave both parent's 50%. Now, three months later, her daughter has settled down (she's had to have lots of counseling for initial behavior problems) She had to change school (and had problems the first month or so) & is just making new friends and her mom is coaching her to let mom have her back. She wants Dad to let her take their child 2 hours away, have to start a new school there, make new friends and sleep on the floor because she is now living in a one bedroom with her new BF. (The one bedroom is set up for new BF's daughter that visits and new BF has two sons that sleep in the living room) and mom doesn't think this is any problem. It would be a wonderful if all bio mom's were created equally (and dads, and step parents, and children too) but they aren't and if all of the above would realize that what is best for children is to live without conflict, then some of these situations would be easier. After all, adults can get a divorce if there is too much conflict but kids can't. Their parent's are always going to be their parents. and studies show that the best thing for a child is to have the greatest community of people that love & care for them, whether it's parents, grandparents, step parents, other relatives, teachers or mentors. You wouldn't refuse to let your child go to school (or change schools) if they liked a teacher and said the teacher was more fun than you. at least I would hope not. The bottom line is that the decisions should be based on what is best for the child. If a parent is "demanding" or "unreasonable" then they are not thinking about what is best for their child, they are engaging in a battle with the other parent at the expense of the children. If the other parent wants what's best for the child, they will cease fire and take the conflict out of their child's life. It may mean sacrifice and if the offending parent is willing to deny their child time with the other parent, the child will grow up to resent THAT parent, not the parent that lost the time. Eventually, the child will decide who they will continue to have a relationship with as an adult. If both parents keep the conflict going, the child is going to cut both of them out or end up in a very dysfunctional life of her own. And history will repeat itself.

Roobear .. thanks for offering to do a PS visual for me, that's super nice of you! I've been contemplating removing the chair rail, the only thing that's stopping me is I know they were not only nailed, but liquid nailed to the wall. I think the damage that would occur would warrant new sheetrock in the room. I wish it wasn't put up so zealously. *LOL* Suero .. I agree the frames should be kept brown to go with the sepia pictures. Newhomebuilder .. Thanks for posting the pic, I did get it to work. Your bookcases look great, I like how they are trimmed on the top and above the mantel .. very pretty! On a positive note .. it looks like we can pick up 500 board foot of beadboard on Monday!! :D I'm really happy about this. It means that ceiling will get redone with beadboard, the living room ceiling will get redone and we can build the new bookcases to abut the mantel in the family room. While I was out this after noon I stopped by my favorite consignment shop and found two great end tables for this room and she was willing to let the set go for $75. Next on the list I need to figure out what to use as a center light for the room and whether I want to put sconces above the fireplace.

My electrician (aka hubby) finally got my second pendant hung over the island today!! You may or may not remember when I posted this pic back in September or October Right after I built and installed my temp island. The area looked, quite frankly, somewhat ridiculous. An 8 ft long island with this one lone pendant hanging over one end of it. The reason it was there was because that was an existing box that used to have a fluorescent light box on it. I knew I wanted to put in another box ran off of the first one and install 2 pendants, well, today it finally got done!! Yay!! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing but there is soooo much more light over my island now! Can I just mention again how much I love the smoke colored glass in these pendants? Also, in keeping with our weekly thread "no accomplishment is too small", I tracked down some spare 2x6 and cut blocks to fit in the old window spot. I also got the piece of drywall cut to install. The only reason I haven't yet is because I am thinking of creating a "time capsule" to put in the wall before I close it off. Chances are that spot will be opened again at some point in the future, it is where the MIL quarters and main house meet. Even if I never open it back up, I thought it would be cool to leave a "treasure" there for someone to discover in the future. Tell me truthfully, does that sound really lame or kinda cool?

I got down my Halloweenie stuff today. Don't have a lot of painted stuff, but what I have will have to wait to post until DD get's back from her sleepover tomorrow afternoon. She took my digi camera with her. Hopefully it will come back in one piece or I may not be posting anything else! Oh dear, didn't think of that when I let her borrow it! ~Anj

sounds just like me! I spend more time on the computer than I do creating!! thanks again to all for sharing and keeping each other motivated. I'll post a couple pics for sharing.

Great! Sounds like even with just the four or so of us, we can keep this forum going.
Kennebunker, we would enjoy seeing any new dollhouses you do, and if you do more paintings, please show us pics. However, we understand that you are really busy with the remodel right now--just keep coming by to chat with us as you have time, okay?
Anj, I have a few Halloween painted items, I'll try to dig them out and take some pics too. And I know you are going to be workjing on new things to show us too.
Payd6, I know what you mean--this computer is so fun. Love to sign on here and some of the other forums to see what everybody is doing. But, yes, it does take away from creating time!
Okay, now we need to encourage Kathi to start painting some more too, so she can share with us.
And I know Valleyrimgirl checks in on us so maybe she will start posting pics of her projects.
Frances has joined right in too, and is sharing her creations with us.
And I know Cait, Nona, Craftylady, and some of the other GJer's stop by here sometimes, hopefully they will keep sharing their painted items with us too.
Did I miss anyone so far? My memory isn't what it used to be. If I did, forgive me and please keep coming by and sharing with us!
So we are growing in numbers! Yeah! With more people, when one of us doesn't have a project to share, another one will.
I love pouring my coffee and signing on here to look and chat a minute--helps keep me motivated to want to do more projects too! And I love hearing about what's going on in all your lives. So great that we live so far apart, yet we can meet on here and become friends because of our common interest
