Did you paint over the holiday weekend?

Hi Everyone, Hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend. Did anyone get to do any painting? I painted an 8x10 Raggedy Ann sign. Plan to put it on a stake and put in the flower beds. Just need to attach everything and seal it against the weather. I used a "pattern" from a coloring book I bought for my GD. ;o) I have always liked Raggedy Anne's and just wanted to have that happy face somewhere in the yard. What did you work on?

luvs~ that sounds too cute, but here I spent my weekend taking everything OUT of my beds for winter. ha

I did actually get to work on painting 3 wooden Christmas stars. I'm just trying to find time to finish the last one and I'll post a pic. ~Anj

Wish it were cooler here so I could cut out some wood pieces to paint--but it is worse than a sauna in my shed right now. Guess I should pull out the box of wood pieces that I have already cut out--maybe something in there I would want to work on. Just can't think about Christmas yet in this heat. I did drag out some already painted scarecrows and things for fall to decorate my front patio. Felt funny putting them out while it is still so hot. LOL

Lynn...I feel for you Big Time.. I know of all the 'prep' that goes into doing a huge painting job and it's no picnic. But like the others have said, think of how relieved you will now feel that it's all behind you. It does play havoc on your body too...seems there are muscles used that we never knew we had till they ache! The reason I can relate..when we lived in our 'This Old House'... DH always had some 'project' or reno planned that would start in the Spring, But ALWAYS went right up to the final hrs before the Holidays. This always brought on major stress since we were the ones who would host all the family for Christmas. I do have to say, once it was over..it was over and it felt sooo good to enjoy what was done... This too will pass Lynn...once it's all put together again, I know I will be 'seeing' your big smile as you're enjoying the results! jane

First, Hello everyone. Newbie here. I hand quilt. But yes, I quilted most of the weekend. And most of this week. I've had off this week from school so its provided a great opportunity to put down the textbooks and relax. (College - I'm 22.) You have to excuse my lack of lingo. But I have pinwheel blocks which are sown together- which are 7 '' x 7''. And I had to add a 3 1/2'' x 9 1/2'' , plus a 3 1/2 x 6 1/2''. Strips to each of the pinwheel blocks. To give me a final block of 10 1/2'' x 10 1/2'' squares. Out of 42 blocks needed of the 10 1/2 '' x 10 1/2'' - I've completed 33. I would say this weekend I completed about 22. I got bored with making so many pinwheels. So, I skipped to the next step leaving out 9 pinwheels, which I have not sown yet. So, now that the rest of the blocks are completed. No, no, no thanks but I didn't make that chair. I found the *picture* of the chair. The chair was someone else's creation. I am under the impression that it is a hand-made piece, not for sale, IOW that YOU can make your own. I don't know where to get the letters, but I'd start looking at Michaels. Anyone know? Just find 'em, glue 'em on, and paint. Now, if you can't find the letters, I think maybe you could cut them out of the stuff they make those foam rubber stamps out of? You can print endless fonts and sizes with your printer, then you could transfer that with transfer paper and cut it out.

Shades sez: "We must have lost ML to her movies. " And that is true. I watched three last night, and went to bed at 3 am. Then my DH called at 9 and woke me up, so I got up and fed the parrots and the dogs. I sat around for a while missing the DH, and thinking about the times previous when I so enjoyed the 4th. My favorite fireworks color was always the purple ones. I can remember watching the show from a boat in St. Andrews Bay at Panama City, We had no fireworks ourselves, but I did burn a spoon full of 151 Rum....."LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE PURPLES!!!" And the years when we boated across Mobile Bay to watch the fireworks show again from the water, and the mad race back to the western shore of the Bay, like leemings about to self destruct jumping off cliffs. And I also remember the hotdogs, potato salad, watermelon,, ice tea and "Killer" lemonade. And my friends. And my DH who always watches the 4th extravaganza which has lost a bit of its drama since the passing of Arthur Fiedler. But DH said to me, "America has been good to me. Of course I am watching this birthday celebration." He reads history nonfiction all the time, but not always able to hear the TV since his hearing is pretty bad. Nothing wrong with my hearing, you betcha. I watched another 3 or maybe 4 shorter movies today. Then I picked blueberries from my neighbor's patch, and sat on the deck after it went into the shade. It was so very still and quiet, with only a stray breeze lightly disturbing the tuned windchime to a faint song. I wish the world was always this peaceful. Peace be with you all today and every day.

It's cooled off here quite a bit, but not enough to be in the Christmas spirit. I just had to get those stars done so I could get started on my fan blade scarecrow. I bet your patio is looking so great. I need to cut down my grapevine so I can get it dried to put over my front door. Once again, so many projects!! ha Hope you find something fun to work on.

Hi Anjabee, Couldn't cut in the shed because it was too hot, so just worked on a GJ project instead. Also got to watch 2 yr old GD for a few hours. I want to work on a couple of scarecrow items too. I love their happy faces. Scarecrows, Snowmen and Raggedy Anne are some of my favorites. Well, better get ready for work, hope you get a chance to paint today. Love seeing all your pics!

I made and painted a whimsicle(sp) cow for a friend.It was made out of triangles of fabric,painted the fabric,then painted the facial features,sewed it all up stuffed it and mailed it off to her.Forgot to take a picture,will have her take one and email it to me.

Luvs,that sounds so cute!! I have a tin raggedy anne sign and a cloth doll in my dining room,with my patriotic,stuff.

Anj,sure would like to see your fan blade scarecrow.

Here it's also still too hot to put out the fall stuff.

Oh, I want to see your cow! Sounds so cute. Bet your friend will be thrilled when she gets it. Weather cooled off about 15 degrees, feels better, might go check the shed when I get through here. Love chatting with you and Anj.

Hey Kathi~ I decorate Americana too. I love anything old and prim so there's kind of a mixture there with my stuff. I have my old raggety doll that an aunt made me when I was small sitting on a shelf.
My kitchen has cows, but I'm getting ready to paint it red so it will make the transition from living room to kitchen better.
I've got to get started on the scarecrow. I found the pattern I want to use yesterday so hopefully I can get started on it today.
Luvs~ I've really enjoyed chatting with ya'll too! Just wish we could get some more painters interested. May just take a while for people to see that it's active here again?? And maybe the change in the weather will make a difference too?

Hi Anj, I think you are right about the weather. I'll bet more piople will be painting this winter. Now they are taking vacatons and working on outdoor projects. I think allot of people stop by--but just move on if there is no current activity. Craftylady posted today, and Kathi is pretty regular. If all of us keep posting, hopefully the others will chime in too.
