The nitty gritty details:

Counters: AB Honed Granite

Cabinets: Diamond Maple glaze

Floor and Backsplash: Ceramic tile (Ceramiche de Provenza)

Windows: Pella, with vivid vue screens

Booth and Island: Curly maple with stain (custom)

Potrack: Enclume 36"

Range: Jenn Air

Fridge and DW: Frigidaire

Love it! Love it! Love it! I feel like I have died and gone to kitchen heaven! Love everything about this kitchen -- cabinetry, banquette, backsplash, lighting, flooring, you name, I love it. Sure, your spectacular views play an important role in achieving that sleek, open and woodsy feel all at once. Still, the other important key to your design is that you've arrived at a visually arresting, uncluttered panamora because of your fabulous organization and storage. Clever! Creative! Beautiful! And, did I say that I love it?

starpooh. I just discovered Gardenweb, recommended by someone in the Cookware forum at Chowhound.com. What a wealth of info....and then I find this thread with a link to your finished kitchens blog! Incredible. What a fantastic resource and I can't even imagine the amount of ongoing time, effort and creativity that must go into compiling this. I LOVE IT! When I think of all the money spent on design magazines because I loved one or 2 kitchens, time spent wandering aimlessly in design and appliance stores, and all the Googling for other pictures and info when I could have been getting my inspiration and thoughts together here! Plus the ability to obtain more info from the kitchen owners. Priceless. Thank you so much for creating this awesome resource and thank you to all the people who took the time to post pictures and product details. I have a feeling I'm going to become addicted to this!

I absolutely love your kitchen but probably because it is very similar to ours. We have creamy shaker style cabinetry with some glass doors, midtone maple floors and the overhang of our peninsula is dark-stained maple - all the same elements as yours (except we have a granite counter - the very classic giallo ornamentale). Our kitchen has been finished since September and I am still playing with accessories and colours. I lived with it for awhile to figure our whether I wanted to stay in the neutral colours or whether I wanted to add some pops of colours. You do need to live with it and let it just happen and evolve. My Process then became: When I put some of my "play" dishes back into my glass cupboards (not the everyday ones) I noticed that blue was a common colour in my dishes and so I lived with those for a while and then I found some really cool orange/terra cotta plant containers at a local garden shop and they "spoke" to me so I brought those home and put ferns in them (they would actually look great in your space). The blues and oranges are really adding to my space. I will now wait a while but when I'm out and about I do keep my eyes open for little touches. I would wait before doing anything over your stove as you may find that you like the openness of the space depending on what else you do in the room. Don't forget that whatever you put there is going to get dirty and will need cleaning. What about a piece of metal artwork ? Just as an aside: I look at some of the beautiful kitchens that people have done with the fancy frou-frous and wonder if I should have done something like that and then when I see yours, which is so similar to ours, and I go -nope- ours is perfect for us. Again, I love the clean simple classic gorgeous lines of your kitchen and the accessories and accent colours will evolve.

kitchendetective--I did a search on Rosso Verona and found Sue B's kitchen from 2006; is that the one you mean? That is one amazing slab! We are going into this with eyes open: We had a honed rojo alicante tile that we marked off into sections and applied Coca Cola, lemon juice, ketchup, vinegar, etc. No surprise--deep etching everywhere. Sooooo, we're going to try to protect it the best we can, at least until the "sticker shock" from the remodel wears off: the working end of the island will be almost completely covered by a freestanding butcher block cutting board, and the eating/buffet end will benefit from use of place mats (us) and straw mats (buffet). Why get marble if you're going to cover it? Well, we wanted that color in the center of the room (not the dark perimeter granite), and it'll just be covered when there's food/drink around, and that won't be all the time. raehelen--I'm glad we share such excellent taste! We love those Pyramid pulls and knobs; we used them in our master bath three years ago. ngng--Thanks for the kind words. Progress pics will follow, when there's something "visible" to show. Right now it's all "in-the-wall" stuff.

Welcome, Patricia, and please stay awhile. I'm Nancy, and I live in Western NC..also in the foothills and near the SC border. Chattypatty and I may be neighbors, for all I know. We have two cats, Casper and Cassandra, both white but that's where the similarities end. We garden, feed the birds, do all sorts of crafty stuff when the mood strikes. I spend WAY too much time here, just to keep up on the goings-on of some of the friendliest people on earth.

Wow,

Lots of personality! Love it!

How does the honed granite clean up? I'm curious, I know nothing about that type of finish.

Raehelen, the granite takes a bit of maintenance to keep clean. Every drop and smudge shows. I'm a bit OCD, but fortunately I don't mind wiping counters a few times per day.

Simply stunning. The curly maple is wonderful, of course, and I love your spice cupboard. I could sit at the table surrounded by the windows and the view and never move except to get another cup of something to sip.

I remember your kitchen from when you posted almost-done pics. Who could forget it with all those magnificent windows??? But it's truly beautiful even without the panoramic vista. I love your cabinets and the sconces look terrific too. You really do have a to-die-for kitchen!

Your kitchen is fabulous. How wonderful it must be to stand there looking into the trees, watching the wild life, etc. I would live in the kitchen. LOL

Love it! I has a simple elegance to it - it seems very balanced to me - not one item stealing your attention - has a very calming effect. I really like the lighting and the breakfast table - can you provide details on those?

Make sure you post us some pictures in the summer with all the green and then in the autumn... wow, with your color choices in your kitchen I'm thinking if the leaves have any color your kitchen will really look amazing!

Mmmmmm! I just love everything!

That is a very nice and simple pot rack. I don't like giant middle-of-the-room pot racks, but yours is very unobtrusive. Nice.

I like your island-table-thingie, too. Very simple, doesn't break up the room. Great choices!

Mysterymachine: The lighting is Kichler Distressed Black.
rebccah990: The sink is a Kindred Noble Series double bowl.
Acountryfarm: We live in central virginia. It is a second story kitchen. This time of year, the leaves are out. We are surrounded by oak trees which unfortunately blocks a lot of the sunlight. Here is a picture taken last summer:

Fabulous choices that perfectly balance the great views! I love the stove/splash/potrack area and the wood is to die for. Your space is creative and unique. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

Love all the drawers and windows! Also love the recycling center--most usable I've seen! Love that you used the narrow space between recycle drawers for cookie sheets! Love, love, love the spice storage between the studs! Love the classic, simple booth. Love the cabinet color with the countertop & floors. Bright but warm. Hope you don't mind if I borrow lots of your ideas when we get ready to build--thanks for sharing.
