Painting Interior Trim - Please help me!
Comments (8)Thanks for the advice everyone. I have decided to try a few different products in various spare rooms and then decide which one I get along best with. Faron - That is one smooth finish! I actually am having a hard time believing there is wood under that paint. Where do you get that brand? Christophern - I think you are right about the primer, I just needed to put it on a bit more evenly the first time. Paintguy - I had never heard that oil based paint yellows. Are we talking in months, years or decades? I had the BM designer come help me pick out a white and she choose vapor, which is actually a pretty yellow off-white. I definitely don't want it to go any "yellower". I might have to use the waterborn SI in the bathrooms. Can I use that over the alkyd primer? I am off to finish the chair rail today, I welcome any additional advice anyone has before I start the trim on the main floor. Thank you all....See MoreWhite Paint Color for Cabinet and Trim Suggestions Please
Comments (1)Fun-C is the Goddess of LRV's here! But.....most of the time, with WHITES, the LRV, imo..... won't change or help much. Your lighting color-temperature, & the amount of outside light & its direction, have by far the most influence on perceived color!! Since this is for cabs & trim, I'd highly recommend a special class of paints for "Cabinets & Trim"! There are a few good brands. Faron...See MoreInterior paint color suggestions needed please
Comments (16)I think the white will help to lighten up the space quite a bit. as for the buffet, why not try an actual color? no need to have everything blend in w/greige and beige! and since it gets dark in the winter, a dark navy isn't going to help. I've painted tons of furniture and have used GF on many of them. it's easy to use and looks great. they have this milk paint which has a satin finish, or a chalk style paint (easy to use) that will need to be lightly sanded (220 grit) after it's dry and apply a wax and buff. looks beautiful when done. here's a Charleton Blue shade w/a dark glaze (but a dark wax would give a similar effect) You could also stain your top in the same dark walnut. i also like the apricot shade (chalk). and you can mix and match to make up your own colors. (apricot w/the french vanilla would yield a lighter shade you may like better) Their website is a wealth of info. https://designs.generalfinishes.com here's the apricot and dark stain,,,or the charlatan blue color. both look great w/your flooring...See MoreSuggestions for warm neutral off-white for interior paint
Comments (10)Is your lighting in ? If not forget choosing wall colors. Get sample cans and narrow your choice to 3 that you like not tons or you will never get this done. All your lighting should be LEDs in 4000K to make the colors stay true at night. I would keep this simple do thewalls in whatever color you choose in a matte finish and use the same color for the trim but in semigloss it will look like a different color just because of the sheen. IMO this si too soon to be choosing wall colorat all I know builders always want to have the paint done before the floors .IMO I would not do white at all since there are so many undertones with whites I would choose a soft gray/ green instead like Healing Aloe BM I find those types of colors much more neutral the beiges, grays or whites it is what I choose when builders are pushing for paint color....See Morepalimpsest
