Shoe baskets for the front door...show me yours!

Hey all,

I was just reading another thread and several of you mentioned a shoe basket. Where did you find yours and how large/how many pairs of shoes does it hold?

We are a family of 6 and while we are not militant shoe removers, we all seem to store our frequently worn shoes by the front door out of convenience.

It's a DISASTER! I tried a shoe rack but because we have so many pairs there, it just doesn't stay tidy and people wind up tripping over them.

I'd love to find a solution to this. I considered a wicker hamper with a lid but then figured it was too tall and my little one would wind up dumping it to get to the bottom.

I'm not interested in storing them up in the bedrooms, we've tried that on more than one occasion and it didn't last very long...I guess we are just too lazy :)

I'm ideally looking for something low and wide that looks somewhat decorative (maybe with a lid?).

I bought a large lined wicker laundry basket from Michaels on their 50% off sale. It fits probably about 15 pairs of adult shoes. When it gets full we just take the basket around to the bedrooms, drop off the shoes in their respective closets and start over.

I don't have a picture of it in place, but it looks like the large basket in the back row, center from this picture.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

My mom uses one like this (it's mostly for the kids when they run around the 9 acre property near the pond or get into "stuff" down at the barn). We aren't militant shoe removers either, LOL!

No need to freak out kim.....you can cut back just about anything.....it is a good practice once your plants have outgrown their planters and are drying out too fast.....my impatiens are becoming little trees and are drinking alot and may start to seperate in cooler months ahead...I will post a photo after I hack the hell out of them and the after they recover....I will be away for a week at the end of the month and everything would be dead when I come back if i didn't reduce them....regular petunias planted on the ground really benefit from heavy cutting back the last of july to avoid getting leggy......I think you should try the flowering kale at this late date for planting in your zone.......and a trailer like creeping jenny or vinca.....if you can find something small in flower like begonias or lobelia at this time of year and you can stuff it in there, do it...........this time of year you can get away with cramming in some plants because they will not have enough season left to be overplanted.......your kale and trailer planted so close to your house should get you to christmas.......another option would be geraniums or marigolds(or both) if you think you need a flowering plant......you could buy some kale put it in the ground, plant geraniums or marigolds for now with a trailer.....and swap them in november.....Kale will look nice to minus 20.......as long as snow does not lay on it you could have it well into january that close to the house, when choosing Kale, try to find some that the stems are not too tall, if they are a little leggy, plant them deep..........I don't believe you posted your supertunia photo kim......lets see what your other containers are doing

I tossed all of my oddball colored shoes a few weeks ago while I was re-organizing yet again. I had an adorable pair of olive green heels that went with absolutely nothing I own, nor do I have anywhere to wear them. I also tossed some red pumps. I'm not sure where they came from, once again, nothing matched. I slimmed my shoes down to things that I wore often or would need in the future and didn't want to pay for a new pair if required (2 pair of tennis shoes, a black and brown pair of dressy boots, a black pair of closed toe heels, and a super cute pair of wedge sandals that I wear with casual dresses in the event I need to look nice for a meal out without kids). Generally, I wear flip flops all of the time and kept 6 pairs that take up the same amount of space as a pair of tennis shoes. They will break and I will throw them away. When I get down to 2 pair, I stock up again when they go on clearance. I also kept one pair of riding boots, and two pair of snow boots that stay in a cabinet outside of the back door with my rubber boots. I keep my dress shoes in plastic shoe boxes stacked on the floor in the back of the closet and my dress boots in a box in the attic with the other out of season clothing.

No, but I once had a party where the guests (by their own design) removed their shoes. The following day I had several callers saying their feet had swollen from something they consumed at my party while a few others called to say that something they ate had caused their feet to shrink. We had a helluva time getting everybody's shoes back to their rightful owners. Whew! And I thought (for one small moment) I was going to be sued, for one small moment, for the dips and chips that had caused edema to occur bordering on kidney or heart failure. Just that everyone mixed up shoes if they were same or similar shoes in color, style, etc. It was the sangria, no doubt. Oh, yeah as a PS, all the women had their rightful shoes; it was the men; the men; the men who had picked the wrong shoes. Wouldn't ya just know.

Remove our shoes--HaHaHa! Ours all end up laying everywhere. We are all guilty. They usually end up in the kitchen or in fornt of the sofa in the familyroom. I'm too lazy to take upstairs everynight, so I just plop in this basket. I empty when it starts overflowing, which as you can see it now!

Here's mine. We wear our shoes inside. Our shoe spot is mainly to keep DD's shoes contained, and to give her a sense of discipline and order in where she keeps things since she is only 2 and obsessed wtih her various flip flops right now. That was the sole purpose for our shoe spot.

Summertime, it's only DD and my flip flops...not my everyday shoes or tennis shoes. I keep all my shoes in my bedroom.

I got mine at Meijer for about $20. The tag called it a "newspaper basket".

Also don't have a pic but we use seagrass baskets with lids. One for each member of the family. I just chuck the shoes in and close the lid. They are lined up nicely in our front foyer. I keep thinking one day I will build a nice little built in unit to put them on, but in the meantime this works.

no basket, just a plain, raised lip plastic black boot tray in the mudroom. I don't like the look of jumbled shoes in a basket and this way it accomodates dirty or wet, snowy shoes nicely. I got the boot tray at Home Depot for like $6.

I saw a neat 'hall bench' at costco today that would be a good solution to this problem. It was a cushioned bench with 4 small drawers and 4 medium sized baskets underneath. It would be perfect for sitting down and taking shoes off or putting them on. I'm trying to decide if it would work in my space.

I couldn't find the exact one, but the link shows something similar.
