I've been playing w/millefiori and did a simple little thang using super glue on the mille (so easy!). The colors don't show up as brightly as I'd like but you get the picture (haha--figuratively). Wasn't quite happy with the plain frame so I screwed two together--it really added a lot of depth to my piece.

The white peony is prettier than the pic, the angle and the sun were not right. It was labeled 'Primevere', but I'm not sure that is right. Chelone, I don't have an old fashioned Festiva maxima, but would like to have one. I had some in Idaho. I do have another double white variety, but it has no flecks. Here is the single that is blooming for me now : I really like these.The stamens get a lot more prominent, more like a mophead, only with stamens instead of petals. They do not get to looking like soggy rags when it rains. I thought that I have Bowl of Beauty,but if I do, it isn't blooming yet. It just may be one that the blasted voles has eaten the roots! That is apparently what happened to the Molly that Eileen sent me. I waited and waited for a sign of growth, and when it didn't appear I dug up the root...only there was no root left! It is beginning to look like the varmints are winning! You may be right about the skunk, but I haven't detected any skunk odor when the digging is going on. The is another batch of holes all across the front of our front flowerbeds and front porch this morning, and out into the yard. We do have armadillos. Kathy, I am sorry that you had to give up on growing Peonies. I had the same problem with Rhubarb. It grew great in Idaho, but I can't get it to do well here. I have been reading lots of favorable reports on Diamond Frost Euphorbia. I bought one before I had read about it. Here is a pic of it planted in a combo with my very first Strobilanthes: I'd like to get more of them if they are still available at the local nurseries or plant places. We have gone back to more seasonal temps. It was the mid to low 40s the past two mornings, and possibly lower tomorrow, but not frost...thank goodness. I have all my tender stuff out on the deck, and do not plan on bringing it back in !

Knock, knock, knock... Is this thing on ? Yeah.. apparently I've stumped our GW crew. That's okay. After much more research and confusion concerning the undercropping, I'm going with plain ol' crimson clover just because it's pretty. It may well add no value at all, but it won't hurt anything. Good enough for now. So with this post, my query should now drop down from the top of the questions here. I'm sure your all tired of seeing it there.

Ed, I would highly recommend INSIDER TRADING ...I've never seen any rust on it...and it's a good performer...and has a pretty bloom. If you can make room for it, I'd be glad to send you a couple of fans. Send me an email if you're interested. Julia, I am keeping my fingers crossed about the LS seedlings. But last year was not a bad year for rust in my garden, so I'm not hopeful. We'll see how they do. Lisa, Thanks! I had quite a few pretty seedlings from that cross, but that one is the best performer. Val, Glad you enjoyed the pics. I agree with you about performance. Rosie, that is adorable! Very creative. Please tell us more - is the tree trunk and grass glass or paint? I like the two frames, the second one really accentuates your art!

oh man now I see all kinds of different shapes trees like this... Rose - you're going to get me in to trouble... I can see it now, Mrs C we like your design over all but one question was it THAT? Oh that? it's pink milifiori because that's a cherry tree at the entrance to your property... LOL

D3BBI: The trunk and grass ARE glass. There seems to be a horizontal reflection on the trunk which makes it look kinda odd. My original plan was to mosaic the background but I wanted the texture of the millefiori to stand out. I used several shades of blue and painted directly onto the piece of plywood (substrate).
If using super glue I would issue a caution because I glued my shirt and vest together (oops!).

I've been toying with doing something with the millefiori.
It's always so 'happy' looking. :)

Have you seen 'Summer Forest' from Virginia Mosaics?
I actually wanted to buy this...but alas it's been sold.

RMT that is absolutely freakin ADORABLE... I have seen millefiori used like that before but not with a painted background..that really sets it off making it 3d like that..I have to caution you with the superglue though...yours is on wood so it probably will be fine but when I used it, it seemed to work great but a few months later the pieces started to pop off. But if yours does at least you can just glue it back on easily enough!!!!!

I actually glued my fingers to the glass using super glue because I had to hold the piece to let it set (on a slight curve) and not slide and didnt know I had it on my finger...man it hurts to pull you flesh off the glass!!!!

Linlee: Yes, in fact I had printed a copy of 'summer forest'. I get my millefiori from Dancing Millefiori (aka Murano Millefiori) and Mosaic Mercantile. MM sells packages of the same designs, a couple of which DM doesn't have. I'm really liking the geometric shapes that I've seen also. Just wish it wasn't so darn expensive but it sure makes a statement! I might go back to this piece and do some more work on it.

RMT- I just came back to take another look at your gorgeous tree. I missed the fact that you had flowers falling out of your tree...I dont know how I missed that before....and I had to of course go look at "summer forest" to see what it looked like and it was awesome, I can see why Linlee and you fell in love with it!!!

Oh, so this is the piece Slow was talking about that had the frame on a frame. I was hoping we'd get to see it!
Very nice. I think the painted background was a great idea, the millefiori really stand out.
I gotta go get me some millefiori now!!
