You might want to check with your local la leche chapter, public health nurse or breast feeding clinic. At the hospital where you will be delivering will have all the contact numbers. ( Sometimes you will not get a straight answer since it is unethical to test meds on pregnant/lactating women. ) You will find these places a great resource for most breastfeeding questions.

Babies who nurse don't get as many bubbles as those who don't (HEck I forgot I was even suppose to burp babies with my first for the first week..oops) So if you get a burp, great, if you don't..don't sweat it..it's not like formula where you get those bubbles in it!!! Sleeping babies can burp up a bubble if there is one, so if one won't come up, he doesn't seem gassy, etc, he probably isn't. Sounds like he's sleeping well, he isn't getting bubbles, so just doesn't need to burp as much as other babies who swollow a lot of air. My kids always fell asleep while nursing...it's hard work getting that milk out of that nipple, not like the bottle that's easy. Let him sleep. No he will not always need food every time he goes to bed, just now that he's little..as all babies do. Maybe at a year or so he'll start to go to bed without his night time feeding, you'll know...right now ENJOY YOUR BONDING TIME. Don't sweat anything. If he's falling asleep easily...personally, let him. If you feel you MUST keep him awake (why you feel you must I don't know unless you read that somewhere) less clothing so he's uncomfortable, play with his feet so he's uncomfortable will help (why would you want to make him uncomfortable?) Maria, menses & ovulation are related to a number of factors, not limited to: ad lib nursing vs schuduled feeds pacifiers separation bottle use (inc expressed milk) night nursing bed sharing exclusive breastfeeding introduction of table foods skin-to-skin contact hormone levels heredity! luck! In traditional nursing communities, children are spaced around 4 or 5 years apart. In western circles, mothers see a return of periods around 14 months. Research shows the differences are related to nursing practices and nutrition (particularly the amount of fat and protein in a mother's diet). Sounds like you've had a number of interruptions in the nursing relationship, particularly if your 5 or 6 month old is refusing to nurse at times. Sometimes this is related to the social nature of that age, or a shift in milk supply related to heavy introduction of solids or change in routine. Occasionally, babies go on nursing strikes due to changes in milk taste with pregnancy. The introduction of solids for a breastfed infant is generally suggested to begin with tastes (fingertips -- 1/2 tsp) around 6 months, offering table foods for trial after nursing until at least 9 months. This protects the breastfeeding relationship and the milk supply. Offering large amounts earlier (particularly "instead" of nursing) can be understood by baby (and in practice!) as deliberate weaning by mom. Which is fine if that's your intent. If that's not quite your plan, and nursing is taking an odd road, you might want to consider chatting with an experienced & accredited La Leche League Leader or an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Biggest dogs we ever had were our 10 lb. mini Dachshunds - especially our 2 special guys - seriously Alpha - but benevolent. We had as many as 4 at one time, with the Alpha I "supervising" at the beginning and Alpha II, at the end - although I am sure the 2 of them would have been the best of friends. As others have pointed out, there are safety considerations in the car - not to mention finding your Dachshund straddling the head rests in the car. Re the leash issue - when your friend has her Dachshund on her lap, the leash should be held tight because if her Dachshund sees ANYTHING that he will consider prey - squirrel, etc. - he will be off - they are hard-wired that way. Then of course there are certain people they do not like. And other dogs that they might want to take on. There was once a calendar that pitted a Dachshund against a Rotti - and it was so true - because every Rotti we ever met wanted to eat our guys for lunch - and vice versa (but they got along famously with Dobes). It used to scare me because our Alphas - while realizing that danger might exist - were not about to shirk their duty to protect Mommy, the adored one (they loved Daddy, but Mommy was "it"). Dachshunds of course have back/neck issues - and yes, our special guys had worst case back/neck problems and each had full body surgery. A leap from your friend's lap could easily be the "event" that triggers a disc rupture (especially when it can happen just walking down the hall). Hopefully your friend's Dachshund falls into the mild temperament variety - our others did - so they were a happy family with a leader - but even they would try and dive bomb from our laps if they saw something. Personally, I prefer the super Alphas. I went to Woofstock in Toronto a couple of years ago and met a whole group of Dachshunds and the parents were all discussing how nervous their dogs were and there sensitive tummies???? Not my guys - the gourmets of gourmands - but then there is so much mucking about these days with dogs. I really hope your friend's Dachshund is not one of the toy dogs - I saw one in the U.S. that weighed less than 2 lbs. - a Dapple like my last guy - and he was on an extendable leash - full length - on a patterned marble floor. He blended right in and was almost stepped on. He was so small I felt sick - and the health issues this dog will have. All Dachshunds love me - with the most aggressive being the first to hug me when I see on on the street - love it! I think your friend needs to have a serious talk with someone who has lived with Dachshunds for some time and knows a lot about them. Personally, I am in favour of stopping breeding of the angels due to the back issues - the pain and heartbreak of the surgery is horrible. For this reason we now have an American Eskimo - I will never get over those long legs - and he worries when we meet a Dachshund because he senses the bond. Best of luck, but I am concerned. My Dachshunds were the dogs of my life. By the way, if nothing else, tell your friend that in Canada, Dachshund back surgery costs about $8,000 - that might scare her.
